Nissan paint, lets just say it isnt the greatest ... 3 washes after some extensive paint correction to get the car "near perfect" (i.e apart from a few clearcoat scratches), I stepped out of the gym tonight to find under the outside lights some slight spider webbing happening.... I really don't understand it.

I've been using the two bucket method, with a foam gun, and one of those marino wool wash mits that look like chewbaca! Will need to do some more pain correction again... probably just Adam's Fine Machine Polish this time.

P21s Wax

No doubt about the best wax.......I have been useing it for years...

Description: I know, you are probably confused by the name of this wax!

P21s explains that there are three categories of ingredients in paste wax: raw wax, an oil component and a dissolving agent. The 100% Carnauba in the name refers only to the raw wax content. The carnauba used is pure #1 grade Brazilian carnauba from the copernica cerifera tree. This P21s wax is very easy to use and will provide incredible gloss, color enhancement and surface protection in a formulation that contains no cleaners, polishing agents or abrasives.

Before waxing be sure to clean the surface thoroughly to achieve the best results. Once the surface is properly prepared, apply the wax with the special applicator included. Allow the wax to cure for just a few minutes, then buff it off with a microfiber towel to reveal impressive clarity, depth of color and shine.

Wax does not make paint shine, polishing paint is what makes it shine. Carnuba paste waxes can add depth to the shine you achieve from polishing but it isn't going to make the paint any shinier. If you apply wax to your paint and the wax creates a shine, then the only thing that you have done is scrubbed off the haze and dirt that was on the paint to begin with (which creates swirls and scratches when done this way). That is the job of a polish. To remove the junk that is on top of your paint so that the shine can be seen.

Wax is a protectant. It protects the shine you get from polishing. Carnuba waxes add depth to your shine but they do not make the paint shinier.

No carnuba wax is made up of 100% carnuba. If it was, it would be hard as a brick and you couldn't do anything with it. Carnuba waxes contain a percentage of carnuba, and the rest of the product is made up of something else which makes the product pliable enough to use.

That's like saying that your car is painted with 100% paint. The paint as it comes originally is too thick to be sprayed and that's why it is mixed with other ingredients. Those other ingredients are what enables the painter to spray the paint.

Too bad I could not find the comparison test from, I believe, Consumer Report. They tested many wax project, ranging from the $3.00 PepBoys OTCs to the $100.00+ waxes.

The top performers were the cheapy ones -- products below $5.00 which could be bought at PepBoys.

The only test that I would believe is a test that I did myself or one that I had access to the behind the scenes information. Who knows if those test are skewed or not.

I'm not saying who's product is best as I don't have a clue. I haven't tested all of them. However, the example that I will give you is Meguiar's. They make a consumer line and a professional line. The consumer line is cheap and can be found anywhere. Their professional line (Mirror Glaze label) is only sold online or at their distributorships for a lot more money. If their consumer line is so good, why don't the professional detailers who use their more expensive Mirror Glaze products use the cheaper, more readily available stuff? The reason is because their Mirror Glaze label products are better, and you won't find them over the counter. That's the same with Zaino, Doo Doo Juice, Griot's, Adam's and a host of others. The guys with the good stuff are not going to place their stuff next to Nu Finish.

Some things like bread, dryer sheets and a host of other products are exactly the same as their more pricey competitors. Car batteries come to mind. The majority of car batteries are created by 3 manufacturers - Delphi, Exide and Johnson Controls Industries. So your expensive Die Hard may be made by the same company as a crappy Duralast. This may also be true in the detailing arena but I can only speak for what I have used. When it comes to what I have seen first hand, I know that none of the OTC products that I have used can hold a candle to the professional stuff I have used. That's first hand knowledge, not something that I have read about. Thus, I speak only from experience, not opinion.

I will say this. If you go out and pay $1999.00 for a jar of wax, you are on crack!

OK, my thoughts and experiences ONLY and as a disclaimer, I am not a pro at painting, washing, or waxing cars. That said, I found that the Turtle Wax Ice worked fantastically on my daughters SMART car so decided to try it on my new child (3 week old 370Z) since I was not about to pay for detailing at the dealer. This is not an advertisement that I am getting paid for and I do not work for TW. My experience has been great on my daughter’s car where the shine and beading have lasted over 6 months now. Two cars completed now, 1oz of liquid wax. When I applied to my new baby even the neighbors noticed. I used paste wax for years and it offers by far the deepest shine but I have grown tired of the buffing and flakes in the crevices. Ice is easy, cheap, and it has longevity; what else can one ask for….. Again, just my humble opinion…

Ferrari -

First.... take a deep breath... you seem to be taking this all a little too personally.

Secondly, you are incorrect... no wax on the planet can be comprised entirely of carnuba - it simply isn't possible for application purposes.

Most carnaubas advertised with 50% or more Carnauba wax content are actually advertising a weight, not a volume, which is a BIG difference. 30% by volume is about 50% by weight and is about the maximum content because 35% by volume makes it almost impossible to apply or remove from a surface.

Straight from the horses mouth:

P21S 100% Carnauba Paste Wax Product.

I see you are referring to our new P21S 100% Carnauba Paste Wax Product.
What we make is a simple promise and it is written right on the package: "We guarantee the only kind of raw wax contained in this formulation to be Number 1 grade Brazilian carnauba from the copernica cerifera tree." Unfortunately consumers have been confused in that the final product (auto wax, or wax) is the same name as its key ingredient (raw wax). In a way it is like a cup of 100% Colombian Coffee. Fact is, 95%+ by weight is water! Here, you are correct that other ingredients are required to make a wax, namely oil(s) and solvent(s). Most manufacturers blend various raw waxes. So do we in our Concours-look Paste Wax which uses several waxes including Carnauba and Beeswax.

Our 100% Carnauba Paste Wax Product is quite different in this regard, containing only Carnauba as its raw wax component. If you start using the terms "raw wax" and "finished wax" you will surely do your readers a good service. Even then, however, it will be difficult to compare waxes based on absolute content of carnauba, as manufacturers typically do not tell you whether, say 40% is meant as 40% of the total finished wax or 40% of the raw wax content. In our case, we have done so more clearly (as per our guarantee above), though for proprietary reasons we cannot divulge this as a percentage of total finished wax".

Kind regards,
P21S Customer Service
Guess what... I can say the same for our Americana Paste Wax- 100% of the wax contained in our paste wax is the highest grade of brazilian carnuba available. That doesn't make the product 100% carnuba, it means that it doesn't use other lower grade waxes (like bees wax) as filler. I won't do the underhanded marketing approach and lean on that percentage though... b/c our wax is reinforced with polymers and other ingredients to increase durability and ease of use.

If you want to do comparative values here too:

P21s - $50 for 6.2oz ($8.06 p/oz)
Americana - $70 for 10oz ($7.00 p/oz) - thats also before the forums 10% discount :D

Well I hate to say I told you so, so I won't.

Aw hell, I told you so! :D
