First off, you do realize that wax DOES NOT make paint shine, right?

Wax is used to protect the shine that you get from polishing the paint. Polishing is where the shine comes from. Carnuba paste waxes can give your shine more depth, however, no wax is going to make the paint shine anymore than it does after you finish polishing it.

If you put wax on your paint and it causes it to shine, the only thing that you have done is removed a bunch of dirt off your paint and scratched it up in the process.

Another thing. There is no such thing as wax that is made for a specific color. The wax has no clue as to what color the car is that you are using it on. It is going to do what it does, regardless of the color of the car. You can't whisper to the bottle and tell it what color you're applying it on.

Thus, what ever wax works best for black will work best for any color. The color doesn't matter, it's what's in the bottle that counts. Now my question to you is do you want to use a professional product or some OTC stuff? That is going to make a big difference in the answer I would give and the price you will have to pay.

What style of buffer and pads to polish my z?

Do you just want the polishes, buffer and pads or do you want everything you need to not only fix it, but also everything you need to keep from damaging your paint once you get it totally fixed? They are two different kits.

This kit will take care of just the paint damage, although you will need to add a jar of Clay Bar and a gallon of Detail Spray in order for it to be complete.

The Junkman's Total Paint Correction Kit has everything you need (minus the foam gun), to totally care for your paint. You choose the wax you want and also whether or not you need a polisher. This is the most complete paint correction and maintenance kit out there. I put it together myself.

just adding to what Junkman already confirmed -

Wax does not care about what color your paint is... it will enhance whats there, but good wax over crappy prep is gonna yield crappy results.

Pinnacle Souveran, Wolfgang Fuzion, Poorboys Natty's Red/blue(cheap), Pinnacle signature series II, and again it is all very price dependent ranging from $15-150+.

I think there may be waxes that are not as optically clear which would hide scratches. Those would be better for black. While a white car where maybe you cant see any scratches at all, you want something that is just clear.

Be wary of CDD (compulsive detailing disorder). It can strike without warning, empty your wallet and cause you to spend all of your time either rubbing your car in some fashion or waiting for the UPS guy to bring you your latest product. That said, if the end is inevitable, take a gander @ autopia.org. Lots of good discussion there. Spend some time reading before you spend any time buying ;)
