Dr. color chip befor and after

Today i used the Dr. color chip. the results were a 8 out of 10 in my opinion. I would recomend the product. you get oem color match, and some really neat little brushes. I would have given it a 10 but i can still see the damaged area. but i bet no one else can.:ughdance:

my 10megapixel camera on super macro cant show the damage, but i'm not the best photographer.

what you get in the kit

before hood damage, this was down to metal.

before front bumper damage, (i think i did this removing the bumper)

In the first "after" pic it's hard to tell but you're definitely shaky in the second. Still though, seems to have worked pretty well. Might be investing in one of these kits soon..

AdamsPolishes 06-14-2010 03:29 PM

It works... if you have larger chips the results aren't so good, but for minor pitting and chips (the most common kind) it works great. My only complaint is one of the times I ordered a kit for a friend they missed the color match by a few shades. Verified the paint code was correct, sent it back and when we got the 2nd attempt it matched.

jetguy 06-14-2010 05:06 PM

yeah, sorry about the pics. i guess i shouldnt have had that 3rd cup of coffee for breakfast:)

jetguy 06-14-2010 05:07 PM

those darn macro shots are a b!tch with out a tripod

Jordo! 06-14-2010 05:08 PM

Neat -- where did you order it?

Also, if you want the OEM touch up paint for Red it's part number 999P-DSA54

jetguy 06-14-2010 05:46 PM

Dr.ColorChip Custom Automotive Touch-Up Paint Kit - Dr. ColorChip: Automotive Paint Chip Repair Systems

I ordered the $49 one. that gets you the really good brushes, and looks like it should last for years and years. just remember to clean your brushes good

LMBmikeZ 06-15-2010 01:40 PM

does any one know the paint code for the 40th anniversary?? I know its called 40 quarts but I am thinking it's going to be a real PITA to get a paint repair kit or even a paint pen.

if anyone with a 40th has had any luck please let me know where u got it and the results you are getting!

specZ 06-15-2010 07:12 PM

should be on your manufacturer label on the door jamb(b pillar/drivers side) It usually reads something like "K18"or "A23" etc.

LMBmikeZ 06-15-2010 10:05 PM

Thanks I completely forgot about looking there LMAO, any way the 40th is coming up as paint code - KAV - for any one else who might be looking.

KaienZ34 07-05-2010 10:12 PM

Anyone know the paint code for the Platinum Graphite Z ? Got a few small road kickup spots, my wife and friends can't see them but I know that they are there I know.

Boost_lee 07-06-2010 12:27 AM

Plat. Graphite should be code K51 I believe

KaienZ34 07-06-2010 12:41 AM

Thanks man...

kenchan 07-06-2010 01:36 PM

Before and after pics if you can...:tiphat:

Boost_lee 04-09-2011 03:19 AM

I used it on my car with great results. Got rid of the hood rock chips, and a few of the larger scratches blend in better than before.
sorry, I didnt get pics

If you are using on black, you will get some swirls afterwards, so a light polish might be needed a later on.

I've used the Dr. Color Chip kit before on my previous Explorer SportTrac. I agree it works really well, without glaring paint blobs.

After I sold my old SportTrac, I kept the SealAct bottle. After removing an emblem from my Frontier, I found that the SealAct was great at removing the adhesive residue.

KaienZ34 04-09-2011 10:49 AM

Good info thanks.:tiphat:

azn370z 04-10-2011 01:58 PM

It works pretty well and is easy to use.

azn370z 08-07-2011 03:25 PM

I recommend doing a couple chips at a time rather then a bunch. And if you don't go over the new paint with the solution and towel the paint may stay a darker color. if you don't buff the paint enough it may leave a dull finish on the clear. After a couple months you can use a pc to shine the clearcoat.

after a few more indents on mine (so far i have two) i will give this a shot. langka is a good system. is there a reason why you guys chose drchip over langka? :)

azn370z 08-09-2011 12:43 PM

I've used Lanka before and I didn't really like it. I believe Lanka is used on oem touch up paint. Dr colorchip is just paint. I think Dr colorchip is easier and quicker to use.

yah wat i like about dr.colorchip is everything comes in a kit ready to use. :)

i'll definitely look into that next time.

JrumMusic 08-15-2011 04:28 PM

Just got mine, today, im charging my camera battery and doing a small video review. Should be uploaded tonight, just have to find some decent video editing software.

prochobo 08-15-2011 08:27 PM

Give it a few months and it starts wearing off. I just took a bright light to some rock chips I had done about 2 months ago and I could see white. It definitely needs to be redone. If anything, IMO this should only be used for small, hairline scratches rather than chips.

JrumMusic 08-15-2011 09:38 PM

Software issue. Smh. I will get it done asap!

kenchan 08-16-2011 08:58 AM

in for picts!

kenchan 08-23-2011 01:54 PM

no picts?

Nick911sc 08-23-2011 06:04 PM

It worked so well you can't see any of them!

Photos hide the imperfections. I took pics but didn't post them because of it. It's like photos of plasti dip, looks great in pics but not so much in person.

kenchan 08-25-2011 04:09 PM

^^ thanks for the info. i guess there's no magic to dr.colorchip then.

poorazn 08-25-2011 05:03 PM

this is bad news... now what do we use on our cars?

gurneyeagle 08-25-2011 09:57 PM

Interesting.

I've used it for three years now with great results. It takes patience, and once you learn how to properly fill different depths of chips, good results will show.

I've found proper drying time is definitely affected by humidity. Getting the feel of that is crucial to good results as well.

I've never had it wear way. I wonder if color has something to do with it. I've used it on an '07 Aberdeen Green MDX, an '08 Amethyst Graphite G37S, and an '08 Silver Toyota Tacoma - all metallic paint.
