Its an M/T. Shifting it gently is smooth at times. But I'm sure the veteran z drivers tend to shift a bit more aggresively and yet don't experience this 2nd gear notch?

I believe it is how you are entering the gate. If you are pushing to far to the left when going into second then it feels like it hits a notch in the gearbox. You can try a different more weighted shift knob to help and practice hitting the sweet spot coming down into second.

I don't have it happen either, but like the others said above I would see if you are just entering the gate a bad angle (to far to the left) this might cause it to be more of a forced motion to get it into the second gear gate. It should be smooth transition between each gate you might just need to practice and as OP said just finding that sweet spot.

I hope it is nothing mechanical and you can keep your Z without having to deal with taking it into the shop GL and hope it doesn't get worse
