That's too bad...we'll have to meet another time. I'm interested in seeing your beast of a G!

Nice! Great review, I'm gonna keep savin up and head there soon
Wonder if anyone else has got their tune done after yours.

Not knocking Cam at all, but doesnt seem like he has been able to get much out of the Z's. 5hp gain on chinnoks car and 9hp on yours? Sounds like he needs more practice on those tables. I've been hearing and seeing amazing results from WRX's and STi's.

Any tuner can make "amazing results" on a factory turbo car. All you have to do is turn up the boost.

Tuning a naturally aspirated engine is a whole other ballgame, and 9hp is actually a very respectable gain from a reflash of a 3.7L NA motor. Also keep in mind that our motors are tuned pretty well from the factory.

And the amount of power you can get from a tune is going to vary wildly depending on the specific vehicle, what mods are on it, what shape the engine is in, etc. If some mods were done which cause the car to run extra rich, then leaning it back out to optimum AFR will get you some good gains. If some combination of mods already leaned out the engine to dangerous levels, the AFR will need to be richened to keep it safe, possibly even at the cost of some power.

Sorry, forgot to put in my post that the tune on the WRX's and STi's was just afr and timing increase, yes boost was turned up in the end, but there were quite abit of gains with just the same adjustments as a N/A motor.

I'm sure your right about the everything you said but iiunno, 5hp and 9hp gains? I got 6.3whp gain on my ZX6R when i got dyno tuned and its ALOT harder to get hp out of a bike then it is in a car.

Once again, not saying Cam did anything wrong, i know its a new car to him. Thats why i like going to someone that actually knows the car, i got screwed over on my Cobalt, got $1500 worth of free dyno tuning, but my tune was far from perfect because the guy never worked on Cobalts before.

He has tuned several vehicles with uprev since he got it and a few 370Zs, Titans, 350Zs and G35 even a couple boosted ones with COBB he also tuned GTRs and 370Zs. The peak gains are minimal but the gains under the curve are good, and those are the ones that matter for day to day driving not sure if you understand that? I am not sure why you care you dont have a 370Z anyway:confused: You cannot compare gains with other vehicles especially turbo vs NA it is not the same at all he tuned a GTR recently and gained close to 100whp what does that mean to 370Z guys....nothing. Cam has tuned more Sti and WRXs than anyone in Alberta if you go there typically 3-4 of them are at his shop at all times getting work done and an assortment of Supras, GTRs, EVOs, RX7s ect...he knows what he is doing he has been tuning since the 90s very few guys can claim that.

I have had several cars worked on and tuned be Lightspeed I have been happy with their work, that being said no one is forcing you to go there no one is promising you will be happy if you do go to them....find another shop if you don't feel comfortable going there, you should just go and find a shop you do feel comfortable with I went to several shops over the years in Edmonton and Calgary before I ended up at Lightspeed

You only have so many ways you can work with a car it doesn't matter if it is NA or FI. Standard procedure set AFR then adjust timing. Slowly adjust to increasing cylinder pressure. Now 370's don't have a set timing number it is a number based on the amount of time it takes for the burncycle to take reach a desired degrees.Nissan table is a representation of the TIME that it takes for the cylinder pressure to reach peak pressure after the plug is fired to explain it better. So there is no global adjust. So we adjust burntime in the cells to see this change looking to get the table as linear as possible. After that is set and AFR is all you can do is try going more and less in each area.

Now to compare a 370 to a WRX or STI you can't. 2 degrees of timing in a Subaru and everyone will call you the SubbieWhisperer and thats just the beginning play with the AFR a little as they come from the factory set in the 10's and 9's and everyone will think you are a genious. Why are these cars set so rich and not tuned as close as the 370's. If you take a turbo car and drive it at WOT for a very long time you will grenade an engine. The engine just makes so much heat it is uncontrolled so the factory tunes them with what I call "moron setting" this is a setting that any moron can do what ever they want to the car and it will live. Put a tune in these cars and if you put someone who will not head the warnings you give them they will destroy it. I just had a friend blow up his car no matter what you say 260km/h sustained will break stuff. Now a NA car will still blow if you are a tool but not even close to as easily. So the factory uses a more optimized settings. Factories know how to build power but they also need to have this thing called warranty and that is why all our cars are somewhat detuned.

Cheers Cam

Like i said, im not knocking on you at all Cam so please dont take it that way. I only know the basics of tuning so forgive me. Like Sylvan Lake V, the curve gain is where its at...yes. But in some cases the peak power is more important. To be honest i couldnt justify spending $600~ on the tuning/hardware to get 5hp gain. I know compairing the Z to a STi is apples and oranges, but i heard tons of amazing reviews about your tuning from the subie's, i just thought the Z would have gotten more out of a tune with full set of bolt ons.

And Zat Zuma, id watch what id say, you never know, your trash talking on here might catch up to you someday.

JMac88 06-29-2011 01:38 PM

Local Guys: Man i wish we had more tuning/support options

Local Shop: Hey guys! I'll support you!

Local Guys: Your tuning is no good, you suck, go away.

And people wonder why local shops never want to support the local tuning community. You may not be wanting to insult him, but judging by the responses your getting here i would say your doing a pretty good job. My suggestion would be to stop posting.

I will take 20hp/trq through out the mid range and only 5hp/trq at the top end over the other way around anyday. I dont know how else to explain the difference between 20hp through out the power band but only 5hp at peak power I dont know what else to say  In will take more power in the RPM I drive at the most, thats me everyone is different.

Thanks for the PMs guys. :tiphat:

Snakes709 06-29-2011 03:23 PM

I agree with you that 20hp through the curve is nice. But only 5hp peak is ******. i got 15hp through the curve of my bike and 6.3hp peak. My truck got 40whp through the curve and 56whp peak and 40lbs of torque peak, not to mention im hitting max torque like 1000rpm sooner and better throttle response and that was with a tune done by a guy in miami, the 3 tunes and the device cost me $400. And since then i contacted my tuner to lean out my tune, target afr was 12.5 and it was at 11.7 at the strip...so theres defently room for improvement. As appose to spending $600+ for dyno tuning and getting 20hp in the curve and 5hp at peak.

But whatever, im not going to sit here and argue, certain people seem to have sand between their legs and start crying to the mods that im "trolling" ...or my favorite one "you been banned for making fun of a member"....seems like no one has a pair these days.

Trash talking? :p

Remind me again which member has been banned for trash talking. :bowrofl:

What is the count up to now? X1? X2? X3?

Sorry to say, I've lost track of how many times.

Bottom line: I really don't like your attitude and now that you don't have a 370Z ........I wish you would go away and be annoying in another forum besides this one. DILLIGAF :stirthepot:
