At least you could pull that door open when frozen with the Pathfinder.... I'm taking my time to slowly break the ice in between.....ugh

LMBmikeZ 12-15-2010 08:52 PM

lol ya yo should get a torch lighter or something similar, so you can heat the glass along the seals. I use one at work to unlock pad locks and open doors (on a all-terrain fork lift) at work all the time!

I am an Electrician, so ya it sucks........the being outside part especially in CANADA! don't know if people had seen on the news, but people near sarnia where getting stranded on the hwy for two days even!!!!

CBC News - Windsor - Sarnia drivers rescued from snowed-in highway

nogoodname 12-15-2010 09:51 PM

Wow... I would freak out if I were snowed in  I'll check into a torch lighter... Sucks to be locked out.

You gotta do what you gotta do but atleast it pays well?

Can't wait til school is over and I'm gonna prep a new grill for install, mod a set of tail lights and do a few other things to the G which include maintenance. I have to do this in a parking garage lol.... Changing the oil in a friend's parking garage.., at least it's heated!!!!!

ChrisSlicks 12-16-2010 09:05 AM

I'd by wary of a torch lighter near glass and rubber, too much direct heat and it'll crack or shatter or melt the rubber. Need to find a liquid ice melt solution that is non corrosive and safe for rubber. Maybe that stuff they make from Vodka?

NG, don't worry it'll never happen while you are inside the car as the glass would be getting heated from the inside.

LMBmikeZ 12-18-2010 01:39 PM

the torch is fine as long as your not an idiot, I mean use common sense. heat it a little then try opening if it doesn't work it's still frozen try heating a lil longer ..... I mean come on, if you f*ck that up you are also probably the type of person who can't change their own oil or brakes. But nogood and my self I know are more then capable or realizing when you should stop.

Another couple of ideas to try to unluck frozen doors are WD-40 and windshield washer fluid. With how delicate the paint is on these cars, I too, would be very cautious using a flame to unfreeze anything. JMTC.

LMBmikeZ 12-20-2010 10:00 PM

flame in these type of temps will literally do nothing! you would need to apply the heat for a good couple of minutes to do any damage, not to mention it's glass not paint or a finished metal products. it's not like the car is sitting in 100 degree heat already baking in the sun....... I mean come on lets be serious. we are talking about something frozen! If you really want your problem fixed, buy a car starter then you will never have a frozen door or frosty windshield again!!

nogoodname 12-21-2010 06:32 PM

I have a car starter...LOL.... that doesnt help!

A good cleaning stick with an ice breaker is good enough.

LMBmikeZ 12-21-2010 09:10 PM

REALLY! wow both me and the woman have car starters and never have to many problems. It's so nice, never even have to use the scraper to much.

NoGood - do you leave your vents on high on defrost? or is MTL really that much worse? I know GTA doesn't get to much snow. but where I live, more SW Ontario we get more snow then GTA....

nogoodname 12-21-2010 09:47 PM

Yeah I do...LOL

I doubt any car would be easy to get into when there's freezing rain..lol. Other than that, there aren't any problems.

LMBmikeZ 12-23-2010 03:52 PM

lol freezing rain is a whole different story, if your getting that then ya......your f*cked!

I thought it was just from the snow melting when you get home or whatever at night and then freezing a little bit making it tough, cause that's normally what happens and the starter will help for sure. But when there's a sheet of ice over your car good luck! we always get the freezing rain in SW Ontario closer to the spring.

FricFrac 12-25-2010 04:05 PM

Lol - suckers. It was 10C (50F for the last place on the planet that still uses that scale) here at 7:00 AM yesterday morning and the sun hadn't even gotten up yet.... not all of Canada is a frozen wasteland :P

LMBmikeZ 12-26-2010 02:25 PM

:icon18: haha definitely not! Ontario and Quebec are not even that bad! Some of the worst spots are actually just on the other side of the mountains to you guys! Alberta and the prairies seem to always being the coldest! Often hitting the -20 to -30 degrees C*. Now that can be f*cking cold!
