Hit & Run

Last night at 9pm I pulled over to dial a phone call, and another driver in a green Infinity G35 came up and was making a 3-point turn... Backed right into the drivers door. Pulled away, looked at me and took off. Lucky me got his license plate ## and now the cops are looking for him/her. Now there's a dent in my door and I'm tired as all crap from sitting at the collision centre until 1am. FML.

I am so so so pissed off.

Edit: so who's been through this before? I'm going to have to claim a new door... Which is really going to suck.

Jeffblue 06-22-2010 06:53 AM

In for updates to what happens. I've always wondered what happens to those sort of people when you get their plate

you should have chased them!

Sibze 06-22-2010 08:03 AM

DJ! You need to shrink wrap your car!

Snakes709 06-22-2010 08:13 AM

Had this happen to me 2 times in the first 6 months i owned my Z. Was coming into walmart, women wasnt paying attention cuz she was on her cell phone. She took the turn to wide and scraped along my driver door and took off, i couldnt see the plate so i chased after her. Caught her, she claimed she didnt know we hit each other. We moved into a parking lot to exchange info and to call the police, couldnt get ahold of the police, she agree'd to come to the station, she then blamed it on me and the cops said it was in a parking lot, they get 14+ calls a day of this crap so they wouldnt do nothing about the hit and run.

Second one happend in a parking lot as well, i wasnt in the car at the time. I was just about to go away with the army, took the car to a car wash and thats when i noticed all the damage to my rear end. Someone was moving right to left and came into a spot on my driver side...hitting the rear bumper and moving to the side. Once again, cops in edmonton wouldnt do anything.

DJ consider yourself lucky you got good cops up there and not lazy asses like we do in edmonton.

DjSquall 06-22-2010 08:42 AM

I was too freaked out to chase after him lol and I instantly dialed 911! I was repeating the license plate ## while he was pulling away, and then I'm like oh crap! He's actually taking off!! All of or gets recorded on the 911 call :) from what everyone is telling me so far, I basically got hit by a gold mine.

I was in the car with a friend, who came and did the report with me at the collision centre, and 3 more witnesses who saw everything happen. This guy is so screwed.

And yeah I gotta bubble wrap my car. This poor baby is just getting hurt over and over :( Saturday night after I dj'ed my second party, which was a full straight 8-hour set, I went to my friends building to sleep and curbed it in the underground because I LITERALLY driving with my eyes closed.... I was beyond exhausted... Rim took a scrape and the side skirt a little scratched at the bottom. After I bang her up in the winter, I'm going to get that amuse vestito and just stay the F away from parking lots lol.

P.S. I'm very lucky I was on a street when this all happened. If I was on private property, it wouldve been 50/50. But in this case, I'm actually a winner!! Now I'm waiting for the cops to get around to my case and find that driver. Going to insurance broker tonight to get them involved as well.. I only have 48hr to report it to them.

Da.Menace 06-22-2010 12:26 PM

DJ you did the right thing. Calling 911 is the first thing you should do. Something similar happened to me 2 yrs ago when I was still driving my Audi.

The guy caused an 3 car accident + 1 car minor damage, and just took off.

Luckily, including myself, there was 5 witnesses, 4 of which including myself got his license plate down (it was a custom plate, easy to remember). The guy got charged for leaving the scene of accident, etc etc etc.

G37Sam 06-22-2010 12:33 PM

If it's modded then he's most probably on G35driver

Sorry to hear and GL

LMBmikeZ 06-22-2010 06:36 PM

shitty luck dude sorry to hear that!

LMBmikeZ 06-22-2010 06:37 PM

o ya be nice to your Z!

susu 06-22-2010 07:28 PM

Aw DJ , sorry to hear about your misfortune. That Infiniti driver likely might have other reasons to run away ... alcohol?, insurance or licencing issues? Anyways that really sucks to have this done to you within 2 months of getting your babe.

DjSquall 06-22-2010 09:37 PM

Yep... Lucky me also has a couple old bosses that were cops. I'm going to go visit them when I get a chance, since they still have lots of buddies in the force who may be able to find the vehicle sooner. Apparently tgis process is going to take about 3 weeks :( I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now lol.

alphawerx 06-22-2010 10:45 PM

sorry to hear that.... if you got the plate, then you have nothing to worry. The claim will not affect you if its a hit and run and plus you have the plate. So, no worries  Weld a full body cage around your car and you'll never have any problems lol jk'n!

Update?

You read my mind!

So here's what's going on so far. The Cops still haven't gotten around to the case, but my insurance is running the plates already. This takes about 2-5 days. The car is at the repair shop waiting for the appraiser to come look at it, which should happen today. The guys are going to push for door replacement, and at the same time fix my fender. I'm paying for the fender, but they're going to give me a good deal on it, so I'm happy.

Since the insurance approved a rental vehicle, I got hooked up to the tits. I'm driving a Porche Cayenne S right now, fully loaded ;) at least I feel a little better now! Since the cayenne rental is more expensive than a regular corolla, the rental guy is going to work it out with insurance to make sure I don't overpay. Man it's nice to have connections!

Not sure as to how long the whole process will take though. If it's just dent repair, 2-3 days should do it, but if we have to wait for a new door, it will probably be a few weeks. I will let you guys know when I find out, in case I have to bail on the next meet :(

When they find the driver, the insurance will work with the cops to charge him with failing to remain at the scene of an accident. His insurance will be billed every penny and I don't have to pay a thing. If for some weird reason they don't find him, I pay a $1000 deductible but my rate stays the same because it's not my fault. If he's uninsured, I pay $300 deductible, and the insurance will take him straight through a collection agency, and the first $300 that he pays back goes back into my pocket. My insurance guy also confirmed with me that green G35's are few and far between so even if I got the plate off by a number or two (which I highly doubt) they will still most likely find him.

So that's that right now, I'm having trouble sleeping because of it, but hey sh** happens. Anyone got a Z I can borrow? :)

Please do not have any mercy on him

Jeffblue 06-29-2010 06:23 AM

17yo with a g35 probably couldn't understand why it mattered. after all, shouldn't your parents have just fixed your car for you!?

and wtf, green g35? are you really going to try not to get found with that color. no one has that color. Maybe you have a chance of laying low with a white, black or silver, but not green!

congrants, in for updates!

nogoodname 06-29-2010 07:03 AM

I seriously thought the same thing. Like WTF those even exist?!? They're few and far between, and all that this kid is doing is making things worse and worse for himself lol. Man, 7 points is going to look real good on his freshly acquired G2.

Graduated licensing in Canada.

G1 - you can drive only with a fully licensed driver in the passenger seat.
G2 - you get after a year of G1 - drivng test, you can drive on your own under a bunch of restrictions.
G - fully licensed after a year as a G2

7 demerit points is the penalty in a hit & run. At 6, you have to explain to the cops why they shouldn't take your license away. At 10, you lose your license. This kids insurance is going to be in the thousands monthly lol.

YamahaR6 06-29-2010 09:18 AM

Nice nice...

Did the guy try to "run" again when you caught him?

Don't know if there's an insurance company that will insure a 17 years old kid with a hit and run record. :wtf2:

To be honest, I blame the parents. But that's a separate discussion that will cause a lot of flames, so I don't really want to get into that.

UPDATE: I called insurance yesterday morning, we had a good laugh about how I found the kid and passed on the info to them. This will help speed up the process. I also went to the Collision Reporting Centre to update the report with the police, and spoke with the detective that is doing it. Since he got called out to the G20 summit, he is backed up with 82 hit and run cases, so he said it will take some time for him to get to mine. I'm assuming about 2-3 weeks. He said he will lay charges against the kid, and I will be called to court. If the kid doesn't admit to it when the detective calls him, we will contact all 3 witnesses and subpoena them to the trial.

I will update again when I get a shout back from insurance regarding the appraisal. Feel free to discuss ;)

Nope, the damage is so minor that you can't really get it with a camera, you have to look @ the light deflections to see the dent and warps in the door. So no pics :( the cops got it with the HD cam though.

Sibze 06-30-2010 09:01 AM

Well what good are ya?
