Definitely get it checked out at the dealer. I'd test it out on a hill and see if it's working at all. |

While I prefer the extra safety of transmission and e-brake, plenty of people use only the parking brake without issue. I don't necessarily agree with the method, but I don't see any difference whether the car is running or not. If your parking brake is working properly, you shouldn't have any problems. If not... :eekdance: (which is why I prefer and would recommend in gear + e-brake when parking). |

This really was a parking BREAK |
In for what broke but maybe his wheels hitting the curb is what he heard.
Doesn't a parking brake need adjusted every once in a while? There is a set screw behind the rotor. At 30k from him buying used, maybe its worn out some. |
I never park in gear, no matter what. But then I would never park on a hill, even if I had to park at the bottom and walk up, just paranoid!
Now that said, from day 1 my parking brake was junk. Every time I wanted to set it I had to get bruce banner over just to give it enough force to even engage. Luckily I found the DIY to fixing it that has kindly been posted here already, no issues since  |
honestly the noise i heard sounded like the noise it makes when i take the parking break off but just as if it did it by itself quickly. it wasnt until i made it to the car an had the door open that i heard the wheels hitting the curb. In the heat of the moment i cant even remember if the parking break lever? was still engaged or if it had snapped back and i havent driven the car since ill post pics an take a look when i get home.
THanks for all the responses and no one getting on me about my punctuation spelling beginner knowledge of my automobile and all its parts and terminology. Anyone live around pittsburgh? |
My PB needed adjusting at 11,000 miles when I bought it. Just a few turns of the screw were enough to get it working right.
