Upgrading from Base to OEM Sport Brakes

I will be upgrading my base brakes to OEM Akebono Sport brakes.
I was going to have a friend do the install for me, when another friend told me I was going to need to get my ABS system reprogrammed for the bigger brakes. How does this get done? Can anyone do this or must it be done by the dealership?

I'm getting all the necessary parts for the install, I just don't want any funky lights going off or some computer errors happening.

I never had to do any reprogramming. The only thing you might have to do is trim the dust shield, but I never had to

DeEePiDDy 08-29-2013 07:14 PM

And you had no issues?

jpritche 08-29-2013 07:44 PM

Nope.

ABS system reprogrammed :shakes head:

Where do people get this from? Do me a favor. Slap your buddy.

Btw I can reprogram
Ur abs remotely for an easy payment of $50

Ok another question... Do I need to get new springs? Or will the ones I have currently work fine?

Ok guys. Seriously it's not funny anymore. I come here asking for help because I'm told something odd. I try to verify it and I get mocked for it.

dP3NGU1N 08-31-2013 01:36 AM

I believe the mocking is suppose to indicate a resounding "no" from the community. No, your ABS doesn't need to be retuned. No your springs have nothing to do with your brakes, mechanically speaking.

However, I'll bundle the tuning together for you and do them both with my mind for $75.

:iagree: exactly, and I have no idea the correlation between brakes and suspension too

Rofl, yeah u do not need any resetting or whatever ur dumb friends are telling you, or even springs unless u want to swap to swift springs.
Whoever is giving u advice please stop asking them.

bigaudiofanat 09-02-2013 11:53 AM

From my understanding of reading, the ABS system is programmed to apply X amount of pressure from the pump to the pistons during braking. This has to be reprogrammed when adding bigger brake calipers to allow for more pressure to be applied. I think the OP if correct to do it.
