Ok guys.. There you heard it! Is Big's theory completely off base like the way you guys were all jumping down my throat?

jpritche 09-02-2013 05:05 PM

I never had to do anything. This is first hand experience. Period.

There has been alot who have up-graded their brakes from base to sport brakes with no problems. The most asked questions on the change is the brake lines. This is the first about the ABS.

DeEePiDDy 09-03-2013 03:46 PM

The fact that it hasn't been asked before is what makes it a valid question! Prior to posting I did search the forums to see if it was an issue, and like you said.. This is the first time it's been asked!

From my understanding of reading, the ABS system is programmed to apply X amount of pressure from the pump to the pistons during braking. This has to be reprogrammed when adding bigger brake calipers to allow for more pressure to be applied. I think the OP if correct to do it.

The ABS does not apply, nor assist in the application of brake pressure. The brake booster takes care of that. The ABS simply applies and releases brake pressure fast enough to where the wheels don't lock up (9 to 15 times per second to be exact).

i originally wanted ap brake kit or stoptech but theyre just too expensive and i hardly ever track the car. I was thinking of doing this on my base any idea on where you got the kit from?? the cheapest iv seen is at conceptzperformance.com

DeEePiDDy 09-06-2013 07:12 AM

I pieced mine together from various people that were parting out their cars. Z1motorsports sells a complete kit as well.

Make sure you replace your framistat and lube the bearings in your exhaust system when you do the sport brake upgrade. These CANNOT be done remotely, but I can get it done for you for $300 since you are a forum member.

SPOHN 09-06-2013 10:01 AM

Z1 has the cheapest upgrade. Period. Plus great people.

Since we are a performance shop and a Nissan dealer I can beat almost any price on either a Sport package/Nismo brake kit or an aftermarket kit, plus we can do installation. Let me know if any of you guys are interested in prices and what exactly you are looking for.

Make sure to show it off tomorrow at cars and coffee in the Z section.

Ok, finally got my calipers, rotors, etc, and got them installed this morning.

Not going to lie, I got these brakes purely for consmetic reasons and imo they look awesome with the yellow and the Nismo wheels.
