Default CO external reservoir

So I recently traded my 09 base in for 12 touring sport. I had swift springs but I'm wanting to go lower and more aggressive this time around.

I've been looking at coilovers and I have noticed some have external reservoirs, some don't. Could someone or anyone help explain why it is better? Or the over all difference?

Lastly anything new come out or is the v3's still king for the most part?

Thanks a lot
