brake job pricing

Before I go into my dealership tomorrow to get an estimate on the labor for my after market pads and rotors, wanted to get your thoughts on a price range the dealership would charge, that way I know if my dealership is trying to rip me off.

Have the base brakes. Just gonna do posi quiet pads and new rotors. No lines or anything else.

Few basic tools you can do it yourself. Easy as it gets. There are a few DIY writeups here also.

I can do all that in about an hour. Dealers will tell you other wise.

yah, do it yourself if you're concerned about $$.

It's a really easy job. You need a lug wrench, philips screw driver, and whatever method you prefer for bleeding them (though this is not strictly necessary).

Takes about an hour, maybe two hours if it's the first time you've done it. It's the easiest brake job I've ever done.

i agree..if all you're doing is swapping rotors and pads it's a really easy job. theres literally a few bolts, to undo to get the caliper off, and then you need a c clamp to reinstall the caliper onto the rotor.

any noob should be able to do it...bleeding brakes on the other hand...thats something ive never had the balls to do. something about the pedal falling to the floor if done wrong makes me a little uneasy

I am 100% not mechanically inclined and even I can change brakes. Promise you can do it with zero problems.

how about swapping the base brakes with akenbono? Is it a job for basic handtools? I looked over the DIY for AP Install. Doesn't seem too hard.

Same thing really, but you should swap brake fluids while you're at it. Must bleed it at the very least.

OP, the dealership shouldn't charge you more than $150...and that's being very generous.

It really is a pretty easy job if you have the time to do it and have the right tools.

I'd guess the book rate is 1.5 hour per axle (2 hours if the rotors are machined instead of replaced), so at their $100-$120/hr rate it will be $150 to 180 for them to do it.
