What do you guys use to clean the inside of the calipers? I've looked at the CRC brake cleaner products but they all warn against overspray on paint and rubber parts. Is it safe to spray those products inside the caliper (space left once the pads are removed) or should I just do the old soap and water technique?
Light over-spray that gets washed off is not an issue at all. Soaking rubber brake parts in brake clean is not a good idea. It will also take wax right off the paint, but it would take quite a long time to damage the paint itself. It's a good idea to rinse with water after.
