Nismo Lowered on Tein S Tech Lowering Springs

8 Attachment(s)
Wanted to post some comparison pics between my stock setup and my new setup. On top of the springs I also have Ichiba 10mm spacers installed on the front and rear. I'm also riding on different rubber 265/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear. The Teins are great couldn't be more happy with them. They ride better than the stock Nismo springs. By better I mean it handles the small inconsistencies in the road much better however you do still feel the big bumps but hey what do you expect. Handling is much improved but can't really weigh in on how much of it is due to the springs themselves but collectively between the springs, spacers, and tires there is much more grip. My front splitter sits 4.3" from the ground at it's lowest point. I didn't measure the stock setup but maybe someone with another Nismo could weigh in for us because I am interested to know how much lower I am riding now. Don't know how much you will be able to see in the pics but in person the overall stance of the car is much sexier. Went with the Teins because it was a drop but not too drastic for I live in southern Indiana and we have great hills and roads to drive on but some can be a lil rough and didn't wanna be bottoming out all the time. I also went with them bc I got them at a great price. $198 shipped on eBay. I posted the pictures of similar views in order. The first pic being the stock setup for that view and the second pic my new setup for that view. Or simpler the brighter red pics are the stock setup and the more pale red is the new. Hope to hear some feedback. Thanks guys

UPDATE 08/19/10
Got the SPC camber kit installed yesterday... Really helped smooth out the ride now that my alignment is back into spec. I was getting some vibrations when braking at high speeds etc... Now it's smooth as ever and I love my Teins even more

looks good. did you install yourself or pay someone?

I paid a local shop. $75 for the springs and $25 for the spacers.

Jeffblue 07-02-2010 11:00 AM

oh wow, thats not bad at all, maybe i will lower my car after all. i, like you don't want to go TOO low but for me its b/c of speed bumps/driveways etc. how do the Tein compare to the Eibachs or H&R

johnnydrama 07-02-2010 11:08 AM

The advertised drop I believe is .9" front and .7" rear. However that's on a regular Z. I believe the nismo already sits about .4" lower. Anyone else with a stock Nismo that could measure how low the front splitter is from the ground would be greatly appreciated so maybe we can confirm what kinda drop I got! I've heard nothing but negatives about the Eibachs ride quality and the H&Rs drop you like 1.5" front and rear I believe so that'd be way too much for where I live.

KaienZ34 07-02-2010 11:30 AM

That's hot, looks like the perfect drop.

Jeffblue 07-02-2010 11:33 AM

well i definitely don't want to drop 1.5 inches. i will look into the Teins. So basically if you have a nismo, its a smaller difference than with a regular Z?

johnnydrama 07-02-2010 11:35 AM

Correct bc the Nismo already sits a lil lower

love it, sick looking nismo as well!

Matt 07-02-2010 01:11 PM

The color of the Red Nismo in the new pics is making me cringe! I know it's the camera though. :(

yea i took the pictures with 2 different cameras... not sure what the deal is with the new pics maybe the settings weren't right. however just wanted to show the drop wasn't too worried about color.

fuct 07-02-2010 02:37 PM

love it man! looks good!

i had tein springs on my Is300 and loved em.

do you think you could sneek 15mm spacers in or is 10 front and rear the limit?

15mm would work on the front but 10mm is the max i would go on the rear with this drop. If I went lower I could do up to 13mm on the rear. I chose 10mm for front and back to keep everything symmetrical to the stock setup. did the same by choosing the tire sizes. went from 245/40/19 to 265/35/19 front and 285/35/19 to 305/30/19 rear.

Waiz 07-02-2010 02:51 PM

Nice job, it looks really clean.

so how much does the drop tuck the wheels in?

johnnydrama 07-04-2010 04:01 PM

got word back from nismo09 in the nismo section of our forum. he said with his stock setup his front splitter is setting at 6" at it's lowest point. Therefore with this complete setup it looks like I'm sitting about 1.6-1.7" lower than stock.

fuct 07-06-2010 02:40 PM

looking at my nismo i cant see how 10mm could work up front?? looks like it would rub over nice bumbs. have you noticed any rubbing in any situations, even with the bigger wheels?

thanks man
Nick

no rubbing whatsoever. actually I could go with 15mm up front. when you lower the car it tucks the wheels and tires into the wheel well

tjlazer 07-06-2010 04:04 PM

Don't take into account that the Nismo is lower as you are replacing the Nismo springs with the Tein. The Nismo springs are what lower the car, not the model of the car. :P If you were to throw the Nismo springs on a regular Z it would lower it 0.4"

Im not sure who ur directing this towards? I know the nismo springs give a .4" drop. I was just saying with the different tires and the Teins I'm now sitting 1.6" lower than i was with my stock Nismo springs. sorry just a lil confused about what u were trying to say or who you were saying it to.

Sorry, I took from your post that you thought the ride height was different besides the springs. The Nismo Z has lower springs, so you'll still be getting .9" front and .7" rear after installing the Tein springs on the Nismo Z. So do the math and subtract that from the .4" you already got there. LOL ;) But I think the difference is the tires really. Nice setup though. Get an alignment? I wonder how off the camber will be. I kinda want to do the same thing as you. Lookin for a set of Nismo s-tunes myself :)

I went in for alignment but their software only had a regular Z suspension setting so I had to come home and dig up the Nismo settings here on the forum. They printed off my alignment specs as they were after the install and I'm not too far off in the rear but the front needs a lil aligning to get it into spec. Not sure if I'm gonna have to get camber arms or not yet. We will see how close they can get it to spec without em. Even tho I'm outta spec right now car still seems to ride and handle quit well. I'm going in next week for alignment so I'll update afterwards.

fuct 07-08-2010 12:10 AM

let us know how it goes johnny. thx for the write up. my tiens are on there way. as are the spcers. looks like i will swing some camber arms for the back at least until someone gets a reliable front camber kit.

mn curious after your alignment if you will rub. please let us know!!!

Boost_lee 07-08-2010 12:27 AM

johnny, you got the alignment without a camber kit, correct?

johnnydrama 07-08-2010 08:55 AM

Having the alignment done Monday. Or atleast attempting to get the settings into spec. I will update on whether camber arms will b needed.

fuct 07-08-2010 11:06 PM

from the factory my rears look to have ALOT of neg camber! i need to transfer my 3 year alignment from my old car to this one.

side note: any one in the houston area know of a VERY good NTB? my last one was kinda ghetto.

thanks,
Nick

Went in for alignment today and car can't be put into spec with stock camber arms so a camber kit is needed for front and back. Ordered mine from THMotorsports this morning. Here on the forum for $509.

fuct 07-12-2010 11:47 AM

i thought there wasnt a proper front camber kit yet.....?

mdbrich 07-12-2010 12:25 PM

Looks good mang. I am in debate over a drop like this. I have a hard time pulling out of some gas stations and stores ect as is. So not sure if i am going to go down this route

Do you know what the specs were? Or did they just tell you ya need a camber kit?

Yea I was helping them with the alignment I'm friends with the guy that owns the shop. Front camber was -1.5 on the left and -1.1 on the right. Rear camber was -2.5 on the left and -2.5 on the rear. OEM Nismo specs are -.58 front and -1.58 rear.

fuct 07-25-2010 11:47 PM

hey jonnydramma any updates? my tein springs came in the other day. did you get the front camber figured out?

I recieved my SPC camber kit but haven't taken it in for the install. I'm waiting on a few other things to come in so I can have it all installed in one trip to the shop. probably sometime next week

fuct 07-26-2010 09:04 AM

cool, good luck. please fill us in.

ive decided to install my springs this weekend then give them a week to settle and take it in to get an alignment. i have a 3 year wheel alignment with NTB im going to take FULL advantage of.

Reaper42 07-26-2010 12:57 PM

Ive been thinking of getting these springs as well, but I am worried about my F.I. exhaust system. A buddy of mine dropped his 370z low with the F.I. exhaust and now one of his cans is oval in shape  Hopefully for myself, just doing the Tein springs wont lower it too much so that I can still drive around without scraping my beautiful exhaust.

Your signature says you have a F.I. exhaust but your pictures say otherwise, if you havnt gotten it installed yet, keep me updated on how it drives with the springs when you do.

christian370z 07-26-2010 01:35 PM

That is beautiful. It looks like there is a good balance between ride height and driveability for the sake of your Nismo fascia! Did you get an alignment done afterwards? You definately got a steal on the labor rates though.

vividracing 07-26-2010 02:08 PM

Wow big difference with the drop and wider tires! Nismo Z is looking good!

I just installed my F.I. exhaust last friday... No scraps yet at all. if i do scape I feel the front splitter is more troublesome than my cans... I've pulled into a few driveways and went over some speedbumps without any issues

Yea shops around here are pretty cheap. Paid an exhaust place $75 for HFC install and $75 for my F.I. exhaust install. Most of the mods I've done I've noticed I've paid considerably less than most people here on the forum.
