When people say 'Track'....are we talking about like Watkins Glen type of track or are we talking about auto cross track (hosted in large parking lots). I would like get some coilovers primarily for steet use but I also auto cross (6-8) times a year. Would I be good with the V3's or BC's??

How competitive are you looking to be with AutoX? I would lean towards TEIN for this.

Tein > BC on performance. But Tein < BC on cost.
So the better one might be clear, but I'm still not sure the extra money is justified for a couple of track runs.

Sharif, if the question would be best bang fo buck. What would your opinion be?

my understanding and talking to the vendors is:
Tracking on road courses and autox-Tein mono's
Autox and street- Tein/KW V3
Steet-KW V3

And for that reason I'm planning a soon purchase of the Mono Flex's

I really like the KW V3 myself. I've had them on my 350z and now have them on my 370z. I would really like to check out the Robispec modification on the KW Variant 3 suspension whenever I get to that part of the build.

Mono flex is a Mono Tube version of the Flex. In paper the Mono Flex is will offer higher performance. The Mono also comes with a 14kg spring package vs. the 12kg spring package in the regular Flex. So for those that want a slightly more comfortably for street use, pick the regular flex. Personally, I love my Mono's. :)

I too was looking for a street coilover a little while back. My criteria was a more agressive drop than springs provide, improved handling characteristics, adjustablity, and a ride that isnt too harsh (no track duty in my future).

My choice was Megan coilovers. $870 shipped to my door. Yes, they may not hold up to the $2k coilovers on the track, but thats not what this thread is about. They are a good street coilover with decent dampening and a wide array of adjustment. I personally roll full soft and it is just slightly firmer than OEM sport. They get a bad rap bc of price and some say "QC issues". But after a month of research on all types of cars running Megans, I found no more issues with them than any of the other, more expensive brands. Just google "XXX brand coilovers + problems" and you will find issues in all makes/brands. They are made in the same factory by the same people that make BC coilovers too and those have seen a strong following in the 370z community as well. Myself and 3 or 4 others run these coilovers on this forum and we are all mostly satisfied. Cost was not the only deciding factor for me, I ran $1900 Tein Flex coilovers on my 350z and frankly they were not worth 2x the price IMHO. As far as bang for the buck...these are decent bet....just my .02

Oh..and they have the rear dampening adjustment on the side of the strut body so you dont have to strip the trunk plastics or run extenders to adjust the rear, only ones that have that feature that I know of.

I've owed Megan Coilovers on my RSX and was really happy with them. However I am into Auto Cross now and am apprehensive when I keep reading about cheaper coilovers not being good to track. Wish someone could technically explain how the more expensive coilovers are manufactured 'stronger'???

The only way of speaking from the "horse's mouth" is to purchase a more expensive set of coilovers (ex.KW3). Only then, someone can really fell and comment on the experience!

ps. However, only a very very limited of owners can go thru this phases due to constrains (economics, time, issues etc...).

ps2. Personally, I will skip "experience #1" and go with "experience #2" right away!!!

I currently have the Megan coilovers but have decided to try the KW product next! I will post once I have some comparison info!!

Also, if anyone gets H&R or Tein springs.. your shocks won't last at all. Get coilovers instead.

:iagree: I am one of those running Megans and I COMPLETELY agree with what was said. Granted, I've never run coilovers before, but I must say that I've had zero issues with my setup. I'm not planning on tracking, and if I was I would have probably gone with a more expensive set of coilovers that are meant for heavy track use. But for daily driving Megans are a great buy. IMO, spending 2K on a setup that's never going to see the track is a waste of money. :twocents:

my friend's porsche boxster has softer suspension setup than his 350z. the boxster is faster around the corners on the streets cus the softer suspension absorbs bumps better, therefore better traction. So could it possibly be that street coilvers provide more "street performance" than track or autoX coilvers? i dont track my car but i want the most performance. STREET PERFORMANCE!

i have tanabes on my g37 and they are very comfortable and cheaper than most of the coilovers out there, i dont know if they are made for the 370z but i would assume they are interchangeable

Is there a particular reason why you want to switch. I mean did something happen that made you feel the need to switch?

I also like the tanabe's alot, I have had them on my personal car and the damping is amazing! The shocks are also made by kyb so there is nothing to worry about.

kw v3 seems more hardcore than just street use cus i just noticed robispec's z uses kw v3's. wow, tein monoflex or v3?

I chose the Tein Mono Flex for our shop car due to their mono tube design and the linear spring rates, as opposed to the KW V3 twin tube/progressive spring design. People will argue all day long about progressive/linear springs, but you can't really argue the mono tube's superiority over twin tube shocks on the track.

Now, if we're talking strictly street use, just flip a coin and I'm sure you would be satisfied with either coilover :)

I've had multple cars with multiple brands of coilovers in the past and the
Dampening on the Megan coilovers are limited. Too much bounce for me over certian road conditions.
Still a good product for the price. I'm just very picky!

I plan to purchase the same suspension for my Z, I must come see your suspension on the car and have a ride. I keep hearing how great they are for the track and are good for the street. I will most definitely have you install them. :iagree:

Is the shop car a 370Z or a 350Z? and was there any clearance issues?

Our car is a 2008 350Z HR. There were no clearance issues at all; the install was as smooth as could be.

Have you installed a engine oil cooler & transmission cooler on a 370Z yet? HOw much to have install mine?
It is stinking cold outside here right now and I am breaking the car in right now on 400 miles on it so I am babying it only half the rpm and the engine oil temp is sitting around 180 to 200 degrees, definitely has me worried for the track and the hot summers.

They are revalved and with stiffer springs. And Robbie likes his cars setup pretty soft. Different strokes for different folks.

Was going Stance but i've waited for them since Dec. 16th and still don't have a definite ETA. These are not the best and i understand but i am in college so i will NOT be spending close to 2k for coils (aka Tein, KW, etc). With that said i kind of like the Ksport but don't know much about them...yet


Edit: seems Stance shipment now "has" actually landed and i would be getting the Stance coils pretty soon. Now do i believe this or not :confused:

i've heard bad things about BC racing, but i've never used so that's about all i can say.

same here, never really heard about BC :tiphat:. Reason i'm leaning towards Ksport is because i've heard of them before through some Honda friends.

Ksport, D2, BC, Megan all the same genre of coilover. Not my favs at all.
