Base to Akebono Brake Upgrade - DEAL of the CENTURY!!!

If you're the owner of a base 370Z and want to upgrade your brakes to the Akebono Calipers that are included in the Sports Package and on the NISMO, I have a deal for you!!

First off I want to make it very clear that I have absolutely nothing to do with these brakes or the seller who has them posted. I stumbled on to this while searching the internet for an inexpensive way to upgrade the base brakes on my 2009 370Z Touring. If you decide to purchase them, I will make absolutely no money and will not be held responsible if you have any issues with the calipers, the pads, the seller and the delivery company. Again, I have no ties to this company at all.

With that being said, I stumbled on to an eBay seller who appears to be in the brake refurbishing industry. They are offering all 4 sport brake calipers, completely remanufactured, powder coated red, with Power Stop Z16 pads included for the unbelievably low price of $287.10, which INCLUDES shipping!!!

I know I know, it sounds too good to be true! That's exactly what I thought, but I talked it over with a few other forum members in another thread:
Akebono brakes cannot be rebuilt? and they convinced me to take the chance and order them. I placed my order on February 19th and received them this morning. To my surprise they are as advertised! They look brand new, the powder coating is well done and they are definitely the correct calipers. The only issue I had is one of the front calipers has two minor scratches, but I'm sure they will be unnoticeable once on the car.

If you are interested in this deal, here is the information:
eBay Seller: brakemotive76
eBay Store Front: brakemotive76
Direct Link to Sale Page: Akebono(ish) Calipers & Pads

The ad talks about a core replacement, but I don't believe it applies to this specific item. There is no core replacement price listed and in picture number 4 it states the following under "Core Return Policy: "Savings applies to certain listings with calipers only".

Here are a few dozen pics of the ones I received this morning. If you want any additional pics, please let me know. I would be happy to take and post more. Lastly, rep points are very much appreciated.

Thank You for posting,

IF you can reach out and let that seller know IF they would be interested in becoming a vendor here it would be GREAT!

Otherwise this thread will need to be closed since the vendor is not an active vendor on here.

I hope you understand thats only fair to the paying vendors on here.

Spartan 1771 02-23-2019 10:33 AM

I was just trying to help others out who are looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade.

I'll reach out to the seller though and give them a chance to become a vendor.

Spartan 1771 02-23-2019 10:37 AM

I just sent them an email. So now I'm waiting to hear back.

Raidernation 02-23-2019 01:50 PM

Thanks op I just ordere a set.

Jayhovah 02-23-2019 02:08 PM

There are plenty of good deals linked around the forum, this one is definitely deserving of it's own thread! Awesome sale!

I hope we don't get in the business of deleting threads that could be potentially very beneficial for forum members and still keep funneling members to vendors like GTM, VSR, Mishimoto, and EVO-R.

OptionZero 02-23-2019 11:20 PM

the masking on the paint/powdercoating looks sloppy as hell

but otherwise, that is an insane steal

Lvcky69 02-23-2019 11:30 PM

yeah no, i wouldn't want to put some cheap knockoff calipers on the Z specially when it comes for my safety. These aren't real Akebonos.

What makes you say this? The price? Do you have proof? Remanufactured doesn't mean fake

Like I said in my original post, I had concerns as well. After speaking with others on here I changed my thought process. Akenbonos can be remanufactured and this company is apparently doing it. As long as it's done properly, there shouldn't be any issues. At this point my only concern are the seals, which I will thoroughly check upon install.

If you want to spend 3x more for brand new ones, then go for it. But as of right now, this appears to be an unbeatable option for those of us who would rather spend that money on something else. Such as Z1 two piece sprinkle slotted rotors.

Just my $0.02

?
It's a refurb part... most likely no different than what you will get from the counter of an autozone.

Spartan 1771 02-24-2019 08:44 AM

If someone on here has an OEM one laying around their garage, feel free to take some specs from it so I can compare. Weight, piston diameter, length, etc.

You can even get the remanufactured calipers from Napa... I wonder if people think those are fake too. Notice that the "Akibono" on the caliper is raised and not stamped. You need to have your own cast to fake this. That's a lot of work for a knockoff.

To be 100% transparent, the set I received do not have Akenbono markings.

The front caliper has the following raised markings: "4502", "L" and "R".

The rear caliper has the following raised markings: "4101", "L" and "R".https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7da5e181ae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9aa808defa.jpg

Those look like power stop part numbers

They do remanufactured OEM parts for many vehicles

Spartan 1771 02-24-2019 10:47 AM

Well they did come with Power Stop pads, so that would make sense.

dts3 02-24-2019 11:28 AM

The part number for the caliper are legit. Here is a pic of mine. I know they are not remanufactured because they came to me greasy as **** with the original infinity coating and used pads still in them
:shakes head:

Part numbers are the same though.

So how does the braking feel and what does it look like on your Z?:pics:

Spartan 1771 02-24-2019 12:04 PM

I just got them yesterday. I need rotors and additional hardware before I can install them.

dts3 02-24-2019 12:04 PM

I haven't put them on yet lol. I pulled them out of the closet just now to take that pic

Lvcky69 02-24-2019 01:03 PM

Should have done more research before shelling out 1k on the z1s smh

I haven't purchased rotors yet. You have a better recommendation?

dts3 02-24-2019 02:00 PM

I'm getting my pads and rotors from Rock Auto

What's so special about these? I'm not big on cross drilled rotors. They have a tendency to crack over time.

I'm big on the Z1 rotors because they have excellent reviews and are significantly lighter. 10lbs lighter each in the front and 5lbs each in the back. That's a 30lbs reduction in unsprung rotational weight.

And just to be clear, I thoroughly research all of my modifications. Hence how I found this deal on calipers.

Raidernation 02-24-2019 08:27 PM

Op I ordered these https://www.ebay.com/itm/StopTech-Fr...gAAOSwUsJYV8cN

Spartan 1771 02-24-2019 08:34 PM

I'm currently running Stoptech rotors and pads on my base brakes. I've had good luck with them and have considered them for my brake upgrade, but there is no real weight savings with them.

What bolts are different?

When these were remanufactured I have to wonder if they were required to remove the Akenbono name.

Spooler 02-25-2019 12:16 PM

I am very cautious when it comes to brakes. If you have been in the triple digits and had no brakes you would understand. I wouldn't trust my life
and someone else's to just anyone. Especially some ebay vendor.

All of them. My akebonos as well as the one that are shown here have L+R on the bolts. Not sure if it means anything

From the pics of the other calipers I can see an "L" stamped on all of the bolts, but I don't see any with an "R" stamped on them. Even if I did, I don't see how this affects the performance of the caliper. Now I do see "L" and "R" markings stamped on all of the calipers shown in this thread, mine included.

dts3 02-25-2019 07:37 PM

Wow I saw those.on my calipers and bolts and never put that.together in my mind
