Anyone, Koni shock upgrade?

I know there's a few people who have swapped to Konis.

I would like to retain stock height and just swap out the shocks.
  1. Is this advisable?
  2. What did you think of your handling results?

:tiphat:

osbornsm 05-05-2017 08:20 AM

Okay 300 views and no thoughts. Innnteresting.

So maybe i'll ask if there's any coilovers that don't lower the ride height.

I have the Koni Sports on my 370z and I love them. They are probably the best you can get. I also run Swift Spec-R springs so I am about 1 inch lower than stock.

That said, I see no issue with using the Konis and stock springs. You may have a very slight drop in height.

I'd do it. The stock dampers are too soft anyway.

Upgrade to '13+ shocks? We know they are good, fits the bill for what you're looking for.

I swapped my 2013 sport shocks for Konis. There is no comparison. The Koni is a superior shock.

Thank you for the unsolicited advice that I am ignoring as I do all such comments from Newbies.

Have a great day.

Can't say for the Z, but back in the day I had koni's on my 2000 Honda Prelude combined with Eibach springs and loved them.

I run Koni on my 240Z as well.

How could I give you advise Oh wise one.
It was a statement. Whatever your post numbers up.

Hi

I have had Koni's before & they work great.
Only thing I would not recommend is to have the shocks on the hardest setting - very hard and stiff regardless of springs you have.

Like most of us I'm sure - these shocks are a great all rounder for DD & occasional spirited track use. Koni can recommend springs as a guide.

Cheers

I have them on my 2013, did it for autocross. Koni yellows with an eibach front bar made a good bit of difference. No height change, less body roll but the car still nose dives even on full stiff. I run full stiff front and 30% stuff rear.

b15 05-09-2017 12:04 PM

If you're going to be in there for the Koni's may as well get the Swifts :)

Stock springs suck, in my opinion they bounce around the car too much especially on Chicago roads. Usually it's the other way around but my ride is much more compliant after installing swifts. Would never go back to stock.

I went the same exact route and it puts the Z at the perfect height, with the perfect stiffness and cornering is much improved, especially since mine are paired with eibach sways.

I'm looking into Koni for my infiniti, the ride is way to bouncy for me.

Nope, its a spam thread.

If that was to me, I might be smart with electronics. But I'm learning the ways of performance. :driving:

Okay! 4 x Koni shocks ordered. Total shipped price = $847.00
Minus a 50 mail-in rebate = good deal

Now, should I swap to nismo Springs?

YES! I ran that combo on the 03 G35 ...... it was like it was on rails!

Decided against Koni with OE Sport Springs as I PM'd a member who did just that and said even on the softest setting they're harsher than OE. Definitely don't want it any harsher than OE. Finalizing a deal for OE 20k mile full Sport strut/shock and spring set. I also don't want it lower than OE.

So THIS is the reason?! Any others agree? I'm about finished with the crap stock suspension @ 55k miles of abuse / being abused.

I cannot have my car lowered much since all you morons moved to Portland and we have even less money to fix the roads with more people on the roads.

Open to suggestions on Springs, and more importantly: Where should I buy from without any games/gimmicks? Is there one seller for a koni yellow + spring combo on here?

cossie1600 02-22-2019 11:27 PM

I replaced my stock springs with aftermarket coil over and swift springs. At the low damper setting, the ride is fairly close to stock. It I couldn’t run it too soft as the car would bounce

I know his is an old post but I want to clarify for others that the Koni are softer than stock on the softest setting, on the firmest setting they are very very firm. I had 30k miles on my sport suspension when I changed just the shocks and the front was a little floaty on full soft and the back was soft but ok. Ride and handling are both better on the Koni if you get them adjusted correctly. I currently have mine set 50% front and 20% from full soft rear but run then firmer on track.

This is a good point.

I have my fronts set to slightly firmer than the middle setting and the rears set right in the middle. This seems to be a good combination.
