Budget Akebono kit
So my brother has a z32, and his stock brakes are pretty much toast, not to mention woefully inadequate for his power level. I read that the sport Akebonos would fit with an adapter from Z1. I ordered the adapter and SS lines, but he wasn't prepared to pay huge money for the kit, which after shipping and the exchange to Canadian dollars, would be very expensive. So I spoke to a friend who runs an auto parts store, and he was able to supply me with rebuilt Akebonos from Cardone. The two front calipers cost just $435 (about $325 usd). To put that into perspective, Akebonos from my dealer are $630 each. I'm just going to go with Raybestos rotors and ceramic pads, which for a car that doesn't see track use, should be plenty sufficient while still being a serious upgrade over the factory spec z32 brakes. The whole setup will cost under a grand in Canadian money. Depending on how it all goes, I may do the same thing for my base model; seems like a pretty reasonable price to pay for a brake upgrade. Will update with pics and thoughts when it all shows up.

Nice find! Think a lot of people will follow suit.

For anyone interested, the Cardone part numbers for the front calipers are 196232 and 196233 respectively. Never priced the rears yet, but I probably will once I get the front dealt with.

That's not a bad deal at all.

:happydance:
FYI, they are available from Amazon, the 19-6233 is out of stock at the moment, the 19-6232 is in stock. |
19-6183 and 19-6182 might be the rears?
After reading OPs post, I was looking at a few store sites and it seems to list a couple of different ones for rears. But applying noob logic here, i assumed 19-61xx would be in the same series as the 19-62xx for fronts. I think we can figure it out if we break down the part number. 19=? 6=? 1xx =? 2xx =? Since they almost always use some logic to come up with the part number. |
I have a quote on paper kicking around somewhere at the house that has the part numbers for the rear on it. I'll try and dig it up.

Thanks Ghostvette and Curtis_J.

Thanks heaps! I just decided to make it a fun little project rather than buying the whole kit. It was a hair under 6 for all 4 calipers and some wait time. Thats with paying the core

**** , that's a good deal. I paid 600 for used calipers off of some Infiniti. Then I had to clean them up and paint them too.

Did you throw an emblem back on? If so, did you clearcoat over it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
