Has anyone seen the outward facing side of Caliper and is it identical in shape to the factory Akebono's? All images online of 19-6232 and 19-6233 shown the inward facing side of the caliper only. Pic attached.

I found this image on ebay of a Centric Part#142.421594. Wonder if it's the same part?

They're rebuilt Akebonos, so, excluding the stripped finish, they should be identical. I'm still waiting for mine to show up. I'll post pics when they do.

Does your price include the core charge? You couldn't put the base calipers in the boxes to return to the store or did you?

stansens 05-05-2017 05:43 PM

FYI that part number shows as $148.47 plus tax with free shipping in Canada. That price includes the core charge which means you could sell your base calipers as well. The site is Get Your parts avatar. CA. Won't let Me type it. I've used them with good results. Just a thought. A good $135 cheaper for the pair can help with buying the rest.

What all do you need to make this work for a base model Z?

Calipers, pads, rotors, and either shorter banjo bolts or a SS brake line kit. I'm going run over to the parts store tomorrow and see if my calipers are in yet.

Trim the dust shields or replace them. I'm going the 'replace' route, since I can't cut straight (or curved for that matter) lines. :ugh2:

IIRC, the set of dust shields from Z1 is about $175 for all 4

Budget Akebono kit

If you want to cut your dust shields get a nibbler from harbor freight. It was the best $25 I spent for the break swap. I originally to to cut them with tin snips but it took forever, looked like ****, and hurt my hand. The nibbler took all in 30 seconds per dust shield.

I searched ebay for months. I was able to grab a set of akebonos for $640 shipped. I feel like i stole them. The guy was auctioning them off individually. I dont think he knew what he had. In the process of rebuilding them now. And paint.

@jtm88 what did you use to paint? Ive heard that duplicolor chips easy. So im leaning towards vht paint.

Still waiting on them to show up. I think they are in Ontario somewhere. Hopefully next week.

I actually just ordered some rebuilt calipers and was gonna make a new thread until i found this one. If anyone is contemplating doing this install you should look into powerstop brakes. I was able to pick up a set of rebuilt calipers, pads, rotors, and new brake lines from rockauto (always search for a discount code first) for a little over 700 shipped. I have yet to install these due to i am still waiting on the akebono decals to show up. But i reached out to powerstop prior to ordering, and they said they will accept my old non-sport calipers as a partial core refund. If everything works out this upgrade can be done for under 700 including the paint for the calipers and new brake fluid.

I scored my rear calipers for 100 bucks each, benefits of working at napa. that included the $15 dollar core on each too. the left front I got from Ebay for $175 with core. BUT, that freaking right front I had to pay full retail lol I couldn't find it anywhere, and on ebay the G37 caliper was cheaper, not by much, but it was cheaper then the 370z caliper. so I saved some dough. I haven't installed mine yet. but need to get my G2 caliper kit and get on it.

A quick question, can you use base model rotors with the upgraded akebonos? or u have to get the nismo rotors?

You must upgrade to the larger "sport" akebono specific rotors. the nismo also comes standard with the akebono setup. Overall a really easy swap
