Looking to have KW V3's custom rebuilt

I tried doing a bit of research and wasn't able to come up with anything. I swear I thought I remember seeing something about a company that is willing to rebuild coils with some custom options/changes to them. I spoke to KW and they said any rebuild would be back to original spec. I autocross my car and feel like the spring rate may be too low on the V3's when running big slicks/semi-slicks. Anyone know of any options? Other than new coilovers altogether. haha

Try Feal in So Cal

How will you be running different front springs?

critical 08-03-2015 08:29 PM

they're progressive springs and can't be changed to my knowledge. time for new coilovers

What do you mean how? Not quite getting the question, sorry DE. I wouldn't mind changing out the front and rear springs to stiffen things up a bit.

That and Feal lists on their site that they don't touch KW coilovers. Excellent. heh

KWs mount to OEM top hats, you can buy swift springs, but they won't "fit" without some modification

Shite, sorry... I didn't look into it, I just know they're one of the biggest rebuilders

PharmDZ 08-03-2015 08:47 PM

No problem! It was a good attempt though. haha I appreciate it. Hmmm I may be up sh*ts creek. Still debating whether it's better to upgrade the stock VLSD to OS Giken or maybe find a new set of coils (or continue to look for an option to rebuild).

Dcocci 08-03-2015 08:58 PM

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure nobody rebuilds KW's except KW. I've never seen a set of custom v3's before. And you're right they are waaaaay too soft lol

PharmDZ 08-03-2015 09:06 PM

May need to re-invest in a set of BC ER's with swift springs or something else more race-friendly. Definitely don't have the money for anything crazy like ohlins/moton/JRZ unfortunately. Plus I think those are all WAY out of my range of experience.

Dcocci 08-03-2015 09:07 PM

I went down the custom BC road and have been extremely happy. Its tough to beat for the price :)

Unfortunately without re-valving the shocks to match the new spring rates, you'll still have poor shock performance.

OP, you also might want to check out Fortune Auto. I don't have any personal experience with them, but I've heard nothing but good things. Also they should be able to build the shocks to your specs.

Also, what spring rates did you plan on switching to?

DEpointfive0 08-03-2015 09:42 PM

I'd do Stance over BC

Spooler 08-03-2015 09:42 PM

I read good things about Powertrix on here also.

This is why I didn't go KW's also. Progressive rate springs on stock top hats, no thanks.

Problem with stance for me is that they are true type coils, no? That'd bump me into a class that'd be even further out of my league. I was thinking 12k front 10k rear.

gomer_110 08-04-2015 08:30 AM

My AST's normally come as true type coilovers for the rear. When I ordered them I simply explained what I wanted the spring rate, free length, and ID of the rear springs to be and they supplied the shock and spring separate. I'm guessing that maybe Stance could do the same thing albeit maybe for a small up charge.

Also, you might want to consider some stiffer springs as 12k and 10k are a on the soft side for running ASP with big wide sticky Hoosiers.

Right now I'm running 275 front 305 rear nt01's but I know to be super competitive you need wiiiide Hoosiers and stiff suspension. The place I was thinking of that customized KWs was Robispec but it looks like they're not around anymore of course hah

Robispec is a motherfúcker, stay away.

And I believe Stance will make you a non-true type.

MAMotorsports 08-04-2015 01:23 PM

Just reached out to Stance for you right now. I will let you know when I get an answer!
