A thread to talk about random Z shite..

I sometimes feel like venting or sharing Z stuff that isn't worth starting an individual thread for. I figured I can't be the only one...

I guess it'll also stop off the rail pollution of other threads...

Majestik 05-21-2010 05:03 AM

Got my mud guards fitted today. Can I just say that I thought it'd be more flush to the body and that I had no idea that double sided tape was used to secure it!

Majestik 05-21-2010 05:07 AM

well your speedo is off like all Z's, so you have to make allowances for it and go a wee bit faster....

I agree but I'm unsure how out the 2010 is..

I know my 2009 was doing 100kmph when it showed 109kmph.

Gee 05-24-2010 05:13 AM

It was off topic on the 'dodgyfuel guages' thread as it started to slant towards power to weight ratios, torque vs. max. kw and so forth.

So I'll say it here too

What things are you 'guys' (any women z owners???) doing to improve the power to weight ratio by lightening things up. Lighter wheels are a start but how about ditchinbg the seats with their very heavy heating units for some good quality replacements like the usual Recaro's. Would be interested to hear what difference that makes - what 30 kilos + ?? Other things? Body replacement kits?

Also, on a completry different topic (maybe it needs another thread??) I thought about a sun roof when I was thinking about getting the Z but when I looked at the scgematic of the car (got the web bookmark here somewhere...) I saw that there are some air bag componenrs in the roof that may mean that a sun roof is not feasible? Anyone got any comments on that?

loving my z
G

The 370z with a sunroof looked really off. I can't remember where I saw the pix but it was on the forum somewhere..

CBRich 05-24-2010 08:37 AM

You mean this one.

http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...installed.html

Mr370z 05-24-2010 09:06 AM

looks good... nissan should have offered one from factory!

Mr Ed 05-24-2010 09:13 AM

without any disrespect, that sunroof looks like absolute ****..... and there is a reason why Nissan doesnt offer it as an option.

i recently got a Hollandia Sunroof installed in my FPV GT.

The installer who had 30 year experience said to not bother as it would be too hard and look like crap.

I can see why? On our roof, there is a dip - it would be impossible to make it look right.

My sunroof glass goes into the car and doesnt stick out like that 1990's way...

I noticed the owner didnt want comments as the truth hurts!

Sorry but my 2c worth...

I think you may be confused. His sunroof glass doesn't "stick out like that 1990's way", it sticks out like that small roof way which is mandatory on any small car. Your car is notably bigger and therefore has room for the glass to tuck in. Also, if your installer tells you something is too hard get a new installer.

As to weight saving I reckon it depends on if you wanna stay na it go fi. Same dilemma on my hr350. Cost me almost 20k to save like 70kg, but that's almost a persons weight your saving. But on a fi car just crank up the boost or even in scramble boost you be better of spending 20k on weight saving. Just my very costly lesion lol

tao168 05-24-2010 08:42 PM

Plus unless on the track you wouldn't even feel the difference on 60 kg

nevertheless, some cars should get sunroofs and that Z is a classic case of not....

How do you explain the ripple on the roof? Would the installer have bent the frame of the sunroof?

My installer has installed sunroofs for 30 years and I would respect his judgement....

Majestik 05-25-2010 05:23 AM

I bloody got 2 tiny chips in my windscreen from the weekend cruise and it's right in my vision :(

I'm thinking about replacing the windscreen as the repairer couldn't make it disappear as it's too shallow.

Feedback?

see, if you kept your old Z, you could have utilised the windscreen :eekdance:

just claim on insurance, you and the company are probably good friends now! :icon18::icon18:

My policy gives me a free windscreen repair or replacement but I'm more concerned about having 'issues' after a windscreen replacement..

Has anyone had a full windscreen replaced before?

My cousin and dad both got full replacements in the last 1.5 years........both after full replaement came back with more air noise, i'd say put up with it ronnie rather than have more issue than small dot.........i have a few, you forget about em after awhile. Think you still just got that new car paranoia.
