I think there's already a thread in here about our insurance..

Exactly the same. Gotta love the complete care when you claim. unlimited car, hotel, etc Easy.

31yo, rating 1 for life, multi-policy discount

RACV told me they also no longer care about mods as long as they are legal and pass vicroads. Sweet!

I'm in Sydney, 26 y/o, male, and paying $1700 through Just Cars with a $2400 excess. Seems steep compared with everyone else here. I live inner city though, which is usually more costly than outside.

I'm surprised at how cheap the insurance is for everyone here. AAMI was $2200 with the same excess for me.

I take it everyone is quoting comprehensive cover right?

gumpy 03-31-2010 06:24 PM

Ravoz - try AAMI and max out the excess

Chilli - Just Cars are just too expensive... but prolly are the only choice if you mod your car...

Just Cars was the cheapest for me by far.

I actually work in insurance, so i'm quite familiar with how they do their premium ratings. Each insurer rates on different criteria, so you'll find depending on which demographic you fall into, some insurers might be cheaper than others for different people.

So Just Cars allows mods, but they need to be street legal? How do you know what is street legal or not? And do they charge you more premium for modding?

I actually dont know this... i never mod my cars i just know they cater for it... Have to imagine they tell you it has to be street legal and then investigate once the claim comes in, in good ole insurance fashion.

TJZ 03-31-2010 06:43 PM

I got a few insurance quotes and did a little research before choosing RAC here in perth. Just Car was the most expensive...

Not only was the premium $50 more, but the excess was rediculous, $2400 vs. the $350 I get currently. I think they had some standard excess, age excess as well as some other special excess....as if they are trying to hide the fact they will hit you for $2400 all up when you claim. I even phoned them to confirm that I was reading it correctly....

Ravoz 03-31-2010 09:41 PM

Im currently with AMMI at $170 a month.

Justcars has me quoted at $150 a month...but compared to everyone else im like an extra $50 a month more.

must be either your history or the area of your car =/

chiliwili 03-31-2010 10:17 PM

Standard excess (around $400 to $600) for me would have meant around $4,000 for AAMI and NRMA. Soooo... that wasn't an option. I think it is because i live inner city. I'm also using my own name, and no accidents or suspensions last 5 years.

Ravoz 03-31-2010 11:06 PM

No accidents no claims or anything. I live in Campbelltown..is that it?

ah yeah... that would be it... what a shame... i'd imagine the only other suburbs that would cost more are the likes of redfern etc...

chiliwili 04-01-2010 01:38 AM

hahahha

i live near redfern... =)

You should ask for another quote from Racv mate. I'm about your age, rating one, insured for agreed value of $78000 and also had a previous claim (of my write off Z) and I pay under $1300 with $550 excess on Complete Care..

Mr370z 06-29-2010 06:56 PM

well $1182 from AAMI isn't too bad... i was also with them for 9 years with the ITR so happy to stay on with them. I'll do some more quotes in 12mths time!

Gee 06-29-2010 09:46 PM

Yes, having been rear ended on 4/June I can attest that its best to get "maximum care" or equivalent for your insurer. I am still waiting on parts being shipped from Japan, I'm a bit annoyed at Nissan for selling new models with insufficient parts inventory stored locally. Be aware.

My insurer paid for a hire car @ $68 a day , Holden Cruze sedan, for two weeks only.
4 weeks would have been better but this may take 6+ weeks.

I am with comminsure, covered for $75k loss etc. $500 excess for $981 p.a.

Gee 06-29-2010 09:50 PM

...and for the car mods, they may not worry about them for now so they take your $, but if you claim are they obliged to return the car only to Nissan factory specs or do they replace your mods, pay you out for the mods and return car to Nissan specs only?

What would the process be for justifying the mods? Receipts shown and then what if they start arguing. Would be interest to know the details. I guess they would be buried in the small print somewhere

Lucky for me a family friend is an accredited RACV drop off centre.

Worst case, any illegal mods would be removed before the assessment...

It's pointless to compare INS rates, too many variables involved. And regardless the only people that would be willing to list what they pay are those with very low rates. You’re not going to get any kind of idea of what most people pay by looking thru a thread like this one. This is just one of those “self esteem / my **** is bigger than yours” threads where everyone pays 50bucks a month, serves no other purpose. I don't mean to offend anyone just saying as I see it.

Old Fart prices

I am 58 and have insured the Zed, my XR8 ute and SWMBO's Liberty for $3000, with Shannons. It is a master policy with $250 excess, loaner whilst vehicle is under repair and new-replacement if written off inside 2 years from date of purchase.

My claims history is clean - no claims on my policy for a long time - although I did get rear ended on the Eastern Freeway 10 years ago - and my repairer recovered costs from the lady who hit me .... without recourse to my insurer's.

Am looking to include house and contents and maybe professional indemnity (I run my own business) but can't do that with Shannon's .... I use a broker every couple of years to chase the best deal.

The Zed is parked in secure parking in Melb CBD (behind a roller shutter) and all cars are parked in garage or shed off-street at home (3113 postcode area).
