Ron I remember seeing you saying this before and have yet to understand how you did it. This is also on a non-Bose, but perhaps I just didn't have the speaker positioned correctly.

I have misled you, my friend...sort of. Although I do recall not using spacers (which I did not). I unfortunately had to remove my hertz woofers this past weekend..(Ronrizz did something foolish) It was then that I discovered how the drivers fit in my doors..... I actually used the Grills from the woofers, and ground the cone protectors off. weatherstrip and caulked onto the factory locations, then weatherstrip and caulk to the grill.
Basically, I made my own spacer with the grills. Sorry for the misinformation.

Why grind the cone protectors off? (I assume you mean that plastic overhang that I'm guessing is to keep water from dripping onto the speaker?)
I'm installing my drivers today, and I'll be keeping that attached, and using an MDF adaptor to mount the drivers to those factory plastic adapters mounted to the door. Fitment is fine without grinding anything down.

Not exactly what I was referring to. I meant on the Hertz speaker grills themselves. Since the grills do not get used in a door mounting, I used the grills as spacers behind the drivers. All the factory mounts remained unchanged.

That being said, I will be removing the factory mounts, and building a custom set with fiberglass for whatever I chose to install next. I may be stepping up to the hertz mille set, I'm not sure.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm retaining the factory ones only because they are already engineered to keep water off the components.

I have the Mille tweeters (newest generation, ML280.3) on order now that they are finally here in North America, I'll let you know my impressions of them. Obviously I couldn't audition these ones as even dealers don't have the samples here just yet, but I loved the 280.2's and the specs on these one are an impressive upgrade.

Sub'd for your feedback on those tweeters

Ok after adjusting a little today here is what sounds best to my ears.

On the Focal amp there are 3 controls
1 Gain - Turned up about 1/4 way
2 Crossover- FULL - When I set it at High Pass Filter I lost some lows.
3 FREQ-

On the Crossovers I changed the Tweeter from 0db to -3
Tweeter=-3
Woofer=High

Listening to Dire Straits it sounds pretty darn good on usb mp3. I have XM but the quality is pretty bad the last few years on the channels I listen to. 25, 26 etc. Usually don't even listen to XM anymore.

I stream Spotify from my S5 on bluetooth and that sounds great. So far I am happy with the Focals. And the Dynamat did quiet things even though I didn't do it the best way.

For finding the best speakers, you usually have to rely on recommendations from other people - unless you can afford to buy and swap out a bunch of drivers/enclosures until you find the "right" ones. RonRizz and the other audio gurus should be able to point you in the right direction.

For speaker wiring, there is no need for high-dollar "boutique" wire. A good-quality, multi-strand wire works great for car audio and all but the most demanding home systems. You can find charts that tell what size wire to use for a certain power level. From an electrical standpoint, the bigger the wire (the less resistance) the better but you run into problems routing the wire if you go too big.

You're never going to get true high-fidelity in a car so get whatever sounds good to your ears.

To add to SouthArk370Z.

For a 10 foot run of wire.

W = VI

Using 12v as a baseline...

18 gauge is 0.064 ohms, max 16 amps, 192watts (factory)
16 gauge is 0.04 ohms, max 22 amps, 264 watts
14 gauge is 0.025 ohms, max 32 amps, 384 watts
12 gauge is 0.016 ohms, max 41 amps, 492 watts

What are your speakers rated for?
