Speaker Size

I've seen too many different sizes listed for the front and rear hatch speakers. What are the actual sizes if I want to buy aftermarket speakers? 6 1/2 for the front? 3 1/2 for the rear?

Please help...

bigaudiofanat 09-28-2009 08:28 AM

6 1/2 front and 4 inch in the rear. I am not officially sure about the rears but someone who has done them should be able to help.

Additional help needed...

i am going to be installing a single 10" and mono amp, if i mod the speakers, is a 4-channel necessary? If so, is a cap necessary at this point? In my old IS250 in which installed 2 12" and modded all 12 speakers, i had 3 amps, 1 cap, and an extra battery.

Need help...

Or simply no.

Also upgrading the speakers a amp is a good idea, but you can run them off the head unit.

Thanks, I saw the cap thread, just needed some reassurance.

Are components necessary for the front or just the speakers? What is your recommendation?

bigaudiofanat 09-28-2009 10:06 AM

Yes I highly recommend going with components, as they have a tweeter and woofer. This way you can upgrade the factory one in your dash and your door panel woofer. Otherwise you are going too have, strange off axis sound, strange sounding music with the factory tweeter in use "if you decide to use it", It is a lot easier to do everything at once. I would just buy a component set install them and be done. Better to take apart things once instead of 2 times.

If you have a decent Head Unit, you could replace only the woofer in the doors with good two-way speakers and compensate the “strange off axis” (as bigaudiofat stated) with the HU parametric equalizer.

Placing 4 inch speakers in the rear is a waste of time and money.

I had 6.5" Infiniti front speakers installed via Best Buy. They had to use an adapter ($14). The trash man picked up the originals this morning. I should have photographed them--sorry.

3.5" speakers will drop right in. 4's will fit with modification.

Rear speakers are not a waste! They add quite a bit of additional volume in the car plus when you play DVD audio disks you get full surround sound. Very Cool!!

Plus I like rear fill but its not for everybody.

Just make sure you cross them over high. They wont take much bass. I run my rears from my headunit and it crosses them at 250Hz

Nevr throw away the factory speakers. You may decide to trade a 350 for a 370. I kept all the factory stuff and now have $2500 dollars worth of equip for the new Z. Soon to be installed.

6 1/2 in the door, what about the dash? is that the same?

bigaudiofanat 10-06-2009 02:19 PM

The tweeters in the dash are 1 inch
