Sub Enclosures

So i know zen has the upfire and backfire sub boxes but im looking to keep atleast SOME trunk space.
Are there any other vendors that do the two more inward dips in the trunk.
or I know Wicked CAN do the two outer dips.
Or if there are any other amazing TWO SUB setups please post, I need some info and ideas so I can hurry along with this audio setup.

Netaudiowf.com has a dual 10 set up other than that may need to go with fiberglass enclosure !

Like the way the subs are tucked back ! I've been looking around fixn to start my new stereo project so many options all except sub boxes leaves me so frustrated

tommyguns 08-26-2014 06:16 PM

I went this route,

HAHAHA, any time!

370z_Roadster 08-26-2014 07:50 PM

Having a Roadster, I'm very limited to my options with no commercially available enclosures. Probably going to have a local shop fiberglass a free-form enclosure in the Convertible top storage area(there is a ton' of Styrofoam taking up space in there). I'm using the trunk right now(10" Sub in 1.5CF ported box) and it's not too bad, but there is a solid sheet of metal reinforcing the body between the trunk and the cabin and it cuts down on low frequency transference. Never felt so "removed" from a Sub.

It was a FUN project! Good luck.

Mbreese 08-26-2014 09:27 PM

Great work and use of space ! So when doing a fiberglass enclosure how do u calculate the volume ? For the sub

Minsu 08-26-2014 09:31 PM

I think each sub had a cubic measurement that it comes with for the sub enclosure. Somewhere in the manual

Mbreese 08-26-2014 09:33 PM

Ya I understand that but since the fiberglass is not a square do you just guesstimate the volume of the enclosure , I know I'm being kind of picky about the details but my OCD want let me be any other way ! Lmao

Minsu 08-26-2014 09:35 PM

Hmm im sure theres some tedious math behind it, but over all you would take the L,W,H it square wise, then subtract the empty space then add to the fiberglass to fulfill the said amount of space you need. So the square would need to be bigger than usual to compensate

Mbreese 08-26-2014 09:38 PM

Ya that sounds about wright ! Lol , a lil trial and error my uncle owns a stereo shop I'll ask him and get back with the answer just in case someone else needs to know

Minsu 08-26-2014 09:43 PM

I wanna do the exact same set up as tommy did, i need my trunk space.
Tommy ur in NY, If i gave you a lapdance, would you consider rebootin this project

Mbreese 08-26-2014 09:44 PM

Awesome !

reeps 08-26-2014 09:45 PM

while your building the frame of the enclosure use packing nuts to fill the area that you plan on filling in, then take them out and put them in a normal card board box and see how much it fills up.

Minsu 08-26-2014 09:45 PM

Oooooo thats smart

reeps 08-26-2014 09:50 PM

prior to building the box just take general measurements of the area that you plan on building your enclosure to get a general idea of the airspace you have to work with. This way you can get an idea of what you are tuning your system for.

I have done a few fiberglass installs. Here is one back from 1995 that I did in an Eagle Talon:

That's some trick **** !

Mbreese 08-26-2014 09:54 PM

I'm sure I can do this with a lil knowledge from everyone and utube ! I just know that I don't want the run of the mill bull you see out in the world ! And as music is very important to me (runs my life) it has to be wright

reeps 08-26-2014 09:58 PM

Take a look at this...

Circuit city carried The HottSetup amps back in the 90's those were a beta brand made by Orion. They just had silver matte external versus the black internals were exactly the same.

I was rolling precision power art series back then a1200 a404 a300 linked and water cooled with 2 18" kicker comps fiberglassed into trunk and mb quart components and miss. Surprisingly I still have my hearing. Lol. Even worse was the chrome and gold dayton wire wheels on the car. Looking back quite ridiculous. But I suppose everyone needs a hobby and that was mine back then.lol

Mbreese 09-04-2014 12:55 AM

Use to rock the old Hifonics amps ! Good times

daveb91 09-04-2014 12:42 PM

I'm going to run my old cheater amp...Orion 225 hcca best amp I have ever owned. 1/2 ohm stable. They don't make them like they used to.

I still watch Ebay for old MTX cheater amps. Got 2 of them in my truck(250x & 275x). Never know when you'll need a replacement unit....

Don't forget to deduct the volume of airspace your subwoofer will consume to your box volume calculations.
For anyone interested, there are 120 cups of liquid in a cubic foot of space.
to figure the volume your subwoofer will take up, fill a 5 gallon bucket to the very top. Take your subwoofer, and loosely place it in a small trash bag, leaving a little slack around the basket. Lower the sub into the bucket up to the mounting ring, and it will displace some of the water from the bucket.
Now you need to refill the bucket, and count the # of cups it takes to get back to full.
Now do the math. Example. 8 cups to refill bucket..... 8 divided by 120 is .06 Your sub takes up .06 cu ft of Airspace.

Or do like the rest of us do, and take a wild guess!
Commonplace in a subwoofer enclosure is + or - 10% with no effect on performance.
