Radar detectors

I've had them forever as I drive thru small towns that have cops that have nothing else better to do than give out tickets and warnings (making you late to work) if you go over 5 mph over the speed limit.
I have a Belltronics and use velcro on the dash since I have a power cord and the power outlet is on the driver side, what's your set up if you have one thanks.

I have an Escort Passport 9500ix on a Blendmount mirror mount hardwired into the mirror.

do you have any pics of the remote display...I want to try this

Installed a wistler pro 3600 remote radar detector yesterday with an additional rear facing antenna. I know it's not top of the line, but my middle end detectors plus attentive driving have kept me ticket free for the last 20 years. Used the front bumper removal diy to get me started. Thanks 370z.com<br/> Here are couple of pics

Thanks for this thread HEK.

I've been considering a radar detector, but I live in city, and the the air is busy with radio frequencies and wireless signals. The last radar detector I had (An Escort long ago) would give a false positive and go off at least once a minute no matter what the settings. How is the current generation of radar detectors? Do they work well at catching police radar and only police radar far enough in advance for you to react? Have any of you lot with the detectors gotten a ticket?

What do you think of your radar detector?

Thanks for the feedback!

Not familiar with the center console in the 370, but the remote display (at least the part you need) is pretty slim once you take it apart.

Closer look at remote, from before the STi-R install. (and also before I repainted the center console and fixed that massive scratch)

I have a Belltronics and it can detect both signals from POPO , Fire Dept and emergency vehicles with at least 30 seconds to respond to our driving mode. I have had Whistlers, Radio Shack and Cobra's all with a few years life span, this Bell I bought in 2010 and love it. I'm contemplating doing the hardwire to the rear view mirror with the wire harness from a vendor I can't recall but also like the fact that I can velcro the unit to the dash and have it blends in with the gauges (trying to post a pic but having technical difficulties) and you want it to be a warning device not a device that distracts you from driving.

Only speaking of the Escort 9500ix. It has a proprietary GPS built in, and if it encounters the same signal at the same location three different times, it decides that it is a false signal and won't alarm on that signal again. It also has an upgradable database of red light camera locations that it will alert you to.

I live outside the city and do come across signals such as alarms and other K or A bands, these are noted on the radar but are not as intermittent as the one's meant to catch you speeding..in the towns I drive thru KA and Instant on are prevalent and these are detected with enough time to slow down. Instant on means a laser pointed beam to your license plate and if you are going way too fast no matter how good you are you will be stopped unless the trooper has his guidelines ( +/- mph to the speed set by the road)

I spent 8-10 hours instaling the pro-3600 on Saturday 05/24 and today I spent 4 hours uninstalling it. Why do I have the worst luck?

After install I drove around for a couple of days and did seem to be getting a high number of false alerts. I figured I would drive for a while and just fine tune the filter settings to my liking. Today I go to take a drive to see how the unit is responding and I get the "Please check Radar 1 communications lines" warning. Double checked all the connections and everything is fine. I am pissed, not so much at Whistler, I understand sometimes products fail. It is just that I spent so much time and effort installing everything including removing my bumper and numerous panels to hide the wires for a nice clean install. I am just not going to take a chance on doing all this work to remove and then re-install a replacement, just to have it possibly fail again. This one is going back to Amazon. I'll stick with my old whistler window mount for now and save up for a Bel or Escort remote install model. Man I did love the look of the remote install, I had the display mounted to the top of my rear-view mirror, pretty much invisible to all but me.

I actually had to send the radar antenna from my STi-R back for repair once. In that case, the part wasn't to much trouble to remove because it is detachable from the main cable.
