After install I drove around for a couple of days and did seem to be getting a high number of false alerts. I figured I would drive for a while and just fine tune the filter settings to my liking. Today I go to take a drive to see how the unit is responding and I get the "Please check Radar 1 communications lines" warning. Double checked all the connections and everything is fine. I am pissed, not so much at Whistler, I understand sometimes products fail. It is just that I spent so much time and effort installing everything including removing my bumper and numerous panels to hide the wires for a nice clean install. I am just not going to take a chance on doing all this work to remove and then re-install a replacement, just to have it possibly fail again. This one is going back to Amazon. I'll stick with my old whistler window mount for now and save up for a Bel or Escort remote install model. Man I did love the look of the remote install, I had the display mounted to the top of my rear-view mirror, pretty much invisible to all but me.

No disrespect, but you could have simply tested the unit on your dash and tried it out. Then after you decide to keep it you would follow through with the installation.

Passport 8500 here. Most of my driving is non-urban so I don't worry much about false alarms, nor directionality. I've had a V1 in the past. It was a good unit but a little bulky and given my driving environment I opted for max sensitivity on the most common bands.

Escort's new stick-on windshield cup is nice.

Just a +1 on this; same setup here and I like it. Clean, relatively easy considering the custom one-offs and hours of work others do. (Not dissing, custom work is always badass and respected; just not my thing.)
