amp install location with Zenclosures box

Whats up Z crew..

Over the labor day weekend I did some shopping and ordered a Zenclosures box for the Z (and one for the wife's RX8). Going to install 2 JL10W3's along with my JL 450/4 amp that I had from my old ride. The Zenclosures box should be getting here sometime today.

For the guys that have a Zenclosures box, where are you installing your amp? is there room to maybe mount it on the back of the box? Anyone have any pics they can share? Trying to get some ideas here.

Thanks in advance.

Some people mount to the box, I mounted the little amp to the small spot behind the seat. You can put it under the seat it will get plenty of circulation. Or you can mount it to the trunk floor.

Also might I ask why you went with JL?

Cus JL is the sh!t! I mean their subs are amazing unless you want to dish out the cost for a macintosh - their amps are ok... I myself like the Phoenix Gold / JL Combo

There good just I think there is better for the money. Here is where I was talking about behind the seat.

In my former ride, 2007 Maxima. I had a JL13w7 with a 1000/1 powering it and loved it. Would love to be able to fit that 13 in the Z but it "might" be a little overkill.. I also had the JL 450/4 powering the front and rear speakers..

My plan is to use the 450/4 in the Z. using Channels 1/2 (150w per channel) for the subs, and channels 3/4 (75w per channel) for the fronts on the Z. Have a Kenwood 6140 on order for the headunit.

So long answer short, I've used JL stuff before and was happy with it..

Cool that may work. I'd have to measure that 450/4 and see if it would fit there..

Is that KnuKonceptz wiring I see there?

Na I hate that stuff, not even real copper. Nor is it something close to it. It is kicker hyper flex the best stuff I have found to use.

well their KLM stuff is not real copper, but have always used their Kolossus Flex stuff. 100% oxygen free copper
Knukonceptz product detail for KOLOSSUS FLEKS KABLE 1/0 RED POWER/GROUND WIRE

Plus I have a boatload of it left over from the maxima..

Either way thanks for the info!

I would put the amp under one of the seats (depending on the size of the amp). I just don't like "advertising" everything I have in the car. But if you get some dark window tint you should be fine mounting to the box. I also prefer not to mount to any of the interior plastic...just my opinion. I'm going to order my Zenclosure soon too. I will be putting the amp under the seat.

Ya I've been thinking about that.. I've had the car for 3 weeks now and havent gotten it tinted yet. Might have to do that before the system install.

QUESTION: I looked all over the place and could find no info on whether or not the Base model comes pre-wired for rear speakers. I know there are no actual speakers behind those grilles, but is there wiring to them?

I want to change the whole audio setup (head unit, speakers, sub, amp), but first need to address the wiring issue.

Thanks ahead of time for any info!

Liquid_G 09-11-2009 04:41 PM

I thought I read that there is not, but not 100% having not torn into the car yet.

bigaudiofanat 09-11-2009 04:48 PM

They are not pre wired for rear speakers you have to run new wire to the rears. Which I am against rear speakers to begin with. Also yes you can mount it to the box But keep in mind that those subs are going to make a lot of vibration/. I am not a fan of putting an amp that i spend 600 dollars on, and put it on top of a box that will rattle it literally apart. I am not saying it will happen in like a year but maybe in a year and a half it can rattle some pieces right out of there place inside the amp. Warranties do not cover that.
