AVH-X5500BHS in touring model

Hey guys,

I'm looking at putting the AVH-X5500BHS in my touring model 370. I'm mostly interested in the app mode features so that I can run Dashcommand to display OBDII info. This seems easier than a custom tablet install. I would just get the AppRadio 3 but I read that you need 4v preouts to work with the Bose amp. I'm also picking up:

- Pioneer CDIV202AV AppRadio Mode VGA Interface Cable Kit for iPhone 5
- Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter
- Parking Brake Override Bypass Fully Automatic Video in Motion for Pioneer Models AVH-X1500DVD AVH-X2500BT AVH-X3500BHS AVH-X4500BT AVH-X5500BHS
- Metra 70-7552 Radio Wiring Harness for Nissan 07-Up
- Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black)
- Metra 40-NI12 Nissan 07-Up Antenna Adapter
- Metra 99-7607B Dash Kit for 2009 Nissan 370Z (Matte Black)

Is that everything I would need to make this work with the Bose system? I was thinking I might do a backup camera while I'm at it. Any suggestions on one?

TIA

I have the same radio in my 40th (has touring bose package).

Use this harness instead:
Amazon.com: Metra 70-7553 Integration Harness for Select Nissan Vehicles with Premium Sound System: Electronics

it works directly off your 4v preamp outputs so you dont need a line adapter.

I used the $20 ebay backup cam and it works great!

You also might want to consider the Scosche dash kit instead of the metra as it fits without the need for a trim ring.
Amazon.com: Scosche Nn1665B 2009 Nissan 370Z Double Din and Din with Pocket: Electronics

boss your best bet would be ditch all the Bose crap and upgrade.

Thanks! Repped. How does the Scosche work with the A/C controls? It looks like the stock surround is all one piece.

I'm honestly not worried about sound quality in this car. Most of the time I don't even have the stereo on.

I don't have the touring package, and I didn't do the 5500 (I did an SPH-DA100 Appradio 2), but I'm enjoying the app mode. When the next jailbreak comes for the iPhone (or if I go Android), it will get even better.

Nice! What can you do with a jailbreak that you can't with the standard functionality? I've got a jailbroken iPhone 5.

Have a look at the video here:
http://www.appradioworld.com/2012/11...-appradio.html

Also, have a look at the AVIC411 forum. As my iPhone is not currently jailbroken, I'm not as up to speed as I otherwise would be.

Post up when you get everything in order.

Awesome! I was hoping someone had done some stuff like this.

Yep. Cool. I would have done it, but I was busy that day : O

puckshaw 05-28-2013 08:16 PM

Ordered everything :D

puckshaw 06-13-2013 10:39 AM

Got everything installed yesterday but the installer couldn't get the ASWC-1 to work. It wouldn't auto program or let him manually program. Tried 2 different units with the same result. He called their tech support and tried a couple changes to wiring but no luck. Looks like we're going to order a PAC instead.

I also ran into issues with the iPhone 5 connector. I bought a lightning extension cable but it's not recognized. Would have been a nice clean install if that had worked. Instead we're going to have to hook directly to that bulky Apple VGA adapter.

Just a generic cable from eBay:

I saw that one but it looks like it wouldn't fit with a case.

You might have to trim some of the plastic. I have a multi layer sedieo case and it would need trimming if I were to use all the layers.

My installer wrapped everything up yesterday. Everything works beautifully! AppRadio Extensions is awesome. I've got my Kiwi Wifi hooked up and can display digital gauges on the screen too. Really slick setup

Looks nice and clean. I sure like the way Dashcommand looks.

Thanks! I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Z-Pilot 06-22-2013 06:23 PM

Hey H2o_Doc,

Do you think it would be possible to install the SPH-DA100 on the storage compartment, the one above the radio?

It looks really cool the way you have it though!

I asked the same thing (it would be a better place), but was told that there are some ducts etc. that prevent it from going in far enough. I have seen someone install an ipad mini and another person install a 7" LCD in that space, however.

H2O_Doc 06-22-2013 08:34 PM

I got a $25 Pyle BU camera and it works great. I made the mistake of wiring it the reverse lights to come on when I back up. That is ok, but there is a button on the HU that you can use to turn it on or off whenever you like (not an option if powered by reverse lights).

Now that I know this, I might rewire and add a front camera and toggle switch.

Curt 06-24-2013 05:08 PM

Does anyone know if this install would still work with the AppRadio 3? If not, what would be different?

Not sure what you mean. An appradio 3 is almost identical, just a few internal differences (Bluetooth music streaming and an optional DVD).

The appradio 3 is pretty nice.

Ah, okay. I guess I'm just confused about the Pioneer head units then. Why did puckshaw pick the AVH-X5500BHS over the AppRadio 3? Just for the DVD player?

edit: Oh, I see. He wanted 4V rca outputs.

Thank youThats exactly what I was going to ask.

Sub'd for review. :tiphat:

Nice looking install. What app are you using there for your gps?

happytheman 08-19-2013 11:49 PM

Oh yeah, how's the PAC working for your steering controls?

puckshaw 08-20-2013 07:14 AM

I use google maps. The PAC is working just fine ;)

Wondering how this thing will fit in the base radio enclosure. I'm looking for something that fits pretty flush. If I have to buy the whole center stack face, then I guess that would be ok as long as it looks like it belongs in the car.

Also - would the regular appradio3 work ok with the base model as far as not having 4v outs? And I guess it's time to google to see if the AR3 does bluetooth streaming. That is a must have for me for sheer convenience.

DashCommand looks solid. I really want to have that capability. Did you have to do anything wiring wise to get to OBDII? Or do you have to drive around with a PLX plugged into the port all the time?

AR3 will stream BT. I have the AR2 and it works great and sounds great.

I use an ELM327 and a dashcommand-like app. Works well, but the reader has to stay plugged in.

Damn. I was hoping to get around that. I have an older ELM327 that will work with a jailbroken iOS device, but I got it before I got my Z. It's huge, and I hit it with my shin when I go for the brake. I can't drive with that bad boy in there. Thanks for the reply! I'm going to have to search for something much smaller.

You can get a cable that goes from the car port to the reader that will allow you to put it out of the way.

I put the same in my 2013. X5500BHS with Axxess ASWC-1, SiriusXM, Backup Cam, & AVIC-U250 NAV Module. Its an awesome setup

What dash mount kit did you use? It looks like it could use a trim kit to make it look a wee bit cleaner.

That is the OEM base radio surround. I got the Scosche dash kit and while it gets rid of the gap, the color is way off. Its black when the rest of the car dash is greyish... I decided to live with the gap as i never payed it much attention. The color being off bugged me every time i looked at it..

Here is a picture of the radio with the Scosche kit.
