Kenwood and a few others are the only ones you can still do that with, as far as alpine, pioneer and others you have to have a bypass switch or module.

Jensen and other cheaper brands have this but you are correct, higher end models do not have secret menus for video bypassing.

Mine is workign without an additional bypass harness...hubby is an aircraft mech...he wired it and it works

Than he used a relay.

For me, the $10 was too cheap to try to do something on my own. Spliced in the 3 wires at the same time I was splicing everything else and I was done. Have not even tried it for the dvd function, but it has come in handy a few times when I needed to dial a number and wanted to use the touchscreen ( from what I read, that is another function that is locked out on the Pioneer units unless you bypass)

I bought from the guy referenced by the OP. nice guy, helpful, and his bypass worked for my appradio.

Glad to help, you see every once in awhile its good to have a thread on a topic that has been previously discussed...this little nick nack is one that hasn't been brought up in the past.

Enjoy!

Instead of making a new thread, I figured I'd just ask it here.. I'm looking to return my 4400bh and purchase the x4500bt.

The difference being is that the x4500bt is 800x480 WVGA a higher and more HD looking picture. Also has advanced app mode which increases functionality of apps and quantity of apps between receiver and phone. The only downside to the x4500bt is that It does no have HD radio built in.

Thoughts?

Cbtech 05-19-2013 04:33 PM

for me HD Radio is not really needed. with this particular stereo I use the Bluetooth audio or the USB. the only time I ever use the radio is if I'm listening to NPR which you don't need high quality sound for.

Tribalpinoy91 05-19-2013 04:37 PM

Yeah, my car is mostly driven in the middle of nowhere country town so theres only 1 HD radio station nearby so forget HD radio.

But more importantly I bought a microbypass for the 4400bh already, can I use the same one for the x4500bt?

Bypass kit 4400bh=$9.99 on ebay
Bypass kit x4500bt=$19.99 on ebay (same seller)

Are they interchangleable or does a different relay being used? hence the price difference?

Yes, the one I showed you in an earlier post will work. They are the same.

I read on another forum that new pioneers use a "double pulse" for the parking brake wire that eliminates lag time. So the traditional microbypass will not work..

Anyone care to confirm or deny this?

I would say spend the $10 to try the bypass. Unless you are ridiculously meticulous you are going to be taking the dash and deck out several times to make tweaks. JMO

I think that is correct. Parking brake on, then off, then on will allow dvd player to work. So a simple on/off relay will not work.

Read the video screen when it comes up. It tells you what to do.

You would have to time your turn on and off switch just right to get it working, where as you can just use the micro bypass and let it do the work for ya.

I ordered the $20 dollar bypass that is specific for this model vs the $10 one I already bought for the 4400bh.

I plan on doing the install of the x4500bt in a few days when it arrives and this "New" bypass that has some double pulse bypass technology..
