Yes, I have Android also (Droid Bionic). WAZE App is available for Android and I have been using it for the past 4 months (Actually found out about it on this forum). Just curious why the bluetooth audio from it will take priority (turns down the music) while running Pandora (or Bluetooth Audio) but NOT if I have the Radio or USB function running. I am pretty sure an incoming phone call will turn down the source regardless of what function the Headunit is in (still need to test this)

ok, i dont like visiting this thread any more cause each time i do, i feel stupid. :icon17:
:p |

You're hearing it because its overlapping on that same generic bluetooth audio streaming channel which basically sends all audio coming out of your device (with a few exceptions). It's normal for you not to be able to hear it through the car speakers when the head unit is set to another source. You can, however, make both your phone speakers and bluetooth speakers output the sound if you want. The way to do that differs based on your phone's build of Android, but usually there will be a little settings icon next to the popup window that comes on your phone as you turn the volume up/down. |

When a call comes through the head unit WILL pause/mute all other functions to allow the call to come through since the head unit sees this as a function change and not an audio change. Make sense? :icon14: |

Cbtech & chesirecat,
Both great answers to my question (yes I think both of you are correct). If I am driving somewhere where I REALLY need to be using the WAZE App, I will just make my listening choice for that trip be Pandora. UruZai -- I definitely recommend the Pioneer units. They look great and if you are an Android person, do have the Pandora bluetooth functionality which is nice. Although I am still planning on upgrading the speakers, the Pioneer unit alone makes the stock speakers sound 100% better. Make sure you check out the "Sticky" at the top of this forum "The Install Videos", especially Video #3. Walks you through every step to get the OEM headunit out. |
im still contemplating if i should get the 2500bt for my dd since im so happy with my 4500bt in my Z. :icon17:
|
anyone care to share your 4500BT audio setting on your Z running factory speakers? :)
i remember bumping up around 400hz and using loudness on high and bass boost at +2. |

^^ i agree. i dont blast my stereo loud at all cause i like to hear my exhaust mostly while the car's rolling, and listen to music while im at a light. so my volume is low. on the HU volume indicator, i rarely go above 9. that said, i need the loudness and bass boost turned on as i cant hear the full range with the loudish exhaust.

Just put a Pioneer AVH-x5500bhs in my Tundra. Love it! Those with iphone 5's looking into any of the new Pioneer's get to pay near $150 bucks to get all the proper cables. You'll still need the firmware update due out this month. It's a bit ridiculous, but not many HU's support the 5 at all.
|
it's been about a month now with the 4500BT. very good. im real happy i got the HU.
one thing though... wish there was a way to turn off the clock. |
I give mine a 3 star as there are some little quirks, 4 stars if I can get my phone to connect to it using the apps. If you have an Android phone, you might not be able to use the App feature or the Pandora feature on this HU.
|
pandora works fine on my unit, per the other post.
|
I can talk on the phone and stream music via bluetooth. I just can't use the Pandora app on the HU. Is there something special that you have to do? When I go into Pandora, it says I need to register a unit or something
|
I don't like that it doesn't play flac files. Streaming and usb mp3's sound muddy compaired to burned discs. Even streamed Bluetooth flac sound muddy. Those same flac files burned to disc sound 5 times better.

I have Pandora v4.2 on my Android. I did more research. So I guess radio app mode doesn't work with Android. The only thing I can use is Pandora, but then that doesn't even work.
|
Yeah sorry meant to mention that...kinda lame that we can't have apps too

Pandora App for Android

Have you set the Pandora Connect mode to "Bluetooth"? Default setting if I remember correctly is "Wired", which is what you have to do with an Iphone. See page 29 of the Pioneer manual. |
Duh you have to open the program, the deck can't force phone to turn it on
|
Actually, with my nexus connected via Bluetooth, I can click pandora on the head unit and it starts pandora on the phone and takes over control quite quickly.
|
yah, mine too. im not sure what the issue is on cossie's phone?
mine's a Droid4 running jellybean. |
Yup mine too
|
i need to figure out a way on my phone side to turn off screen while in my pocket. ive had instances where im done calling my wife, hung up, and my phone re-dials by accident.
or while pandora is turned on, the screen is also on. |

The SIII's tend to stay on, which I think is due to the face recognition keeping the screen on because it thinks something is looking at it or at least moving. Most android phones have options to turn off the screen after a certain time if the face recon feature is turned off. |
I tried it again yesterday. Pandora definitely won't run by itself. If it was opened in the background, then it can recognize and open the program. I usually don't listen to Pandora, so I guess it doesn't matter. I did put the $19.99 bypass in, works great.
I am still pissed about the lack of app mode, arggg. I should have bought the Appradio as I don't watch DVD or drive much anyway |

can you return your unit and replace it with that appradio2? if you bought it from amazon, they have great return policies. |
I am considering it as the appradio2 seems to do what I want a little bit better, but then the AVH-4500 seems more reliable and less buggy. I wonder if Pioneer will ever come up with a firmware update to make it more Android compatible? Even on the Appradio 2, you need to plug it in each time rather than having everything done via bluetooth.

How well can you guys see your screens during the day? I feel like mine is washed out.

pioneer would have a hell of a time trying to accomodate each phone... and we all know about all the crybabies out there. :shakes head: i dont really stare at my 4500BT while driving and i haven't really noticed it was washed out? my 2500BT appears washed out on a bright day due to where it's located on my dd. it's not too bad though. |
For my old 8400bt, the screen was kind of "washed out" until I changed the brightness and contrast settings to give the screen a better black level. Try this in the settings.

looking good so far, cossie! you got more gap than mine around the bezel. hummmm.... is that on tilt?
you going to hardwire all those loose wires right? |
Yes the screen is on tilt, I found the screen is easier to read tilted. (one of the main reason why i went with 4500 rather than 2500)
http://imageshack.us/a/img809/4199/dsc6472e.jpg I will fix the wire eventually (waiting for parts to come in), been rough trying to work on the car while babysitting. By the way. The bluetooth works good on my end, but everyone who spoke to me said there is so much road noise on the other side that it makes it impossible for them to hear. Do you guys have a fix? |
sounds good, cossie.
you can place the mic at the corner of the driver side a-pillar and ceiling, or where i put it, which is next to the rear view mirror on the ceiling. both locations work fine. :) just clip the mic clip into the ceiling and it should hold pretty securely. |
