Default bose subwoofer replacement

i have the bose sound system with the subwoofer built on top of the spare.. i was wanting to replace it with a sub that would bump a lil harder. ive seen pics of guys who have done it before, and it seems to save a lot of room in the trunk area. i wanted to get an inclosure, but that wouls take too much room and theres already not enough room as it is. if i put guards over the sub and cut a hole in the middle of the trunk mat, it should look pretty nice.

i was wondering if anyone has tried this, if so please share your experience. and if you can find any pics of what im talking about post em up. i cant seem to find any now.. thanks
