Default Dual DXV3D installed & steering wheel wiring question

I installed the Dual DXV3D today. It took me a little under an hour using TenneeseeZ's DIY, so thanks to him. However I did not find it necessary to unplug the hazards, S-drive or AC panel plug.

Fitment is absolutely perfect and I love all of the features.

One question though: If you look at the last few pictures below of the steering wheel control wires coming out of the back of the head-unit, do I need a 3rd party adapter or is there a way to wire these direct?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

No. You need the interface.

Thanks for the info. When this unit was listed on Crutchfield they had it under the "built in" filter, rather than "adapter required", but I realize that information is not always accurate.

Thanks again.

Edit my prior post... Dual's website claims that it has the programmable interface built in, as you stated, but the manual wiring diagram calls out those wires as steering wheel control interface input. Seems like a bit of a gray area to me. You can always call Dual directly, or email them....
I'm betting $$ you need that interface, though.

Thanks.

I'm sure this is covered elsewhere, but the smaller plug that I unplugged from the factory stereo during the swap, is that the steering wheel control?

The owners manual for the Dual states that you can just wire the new control wires to the factory wiring, but obviously they don't know what car you own. Upon powering everything back up, you then initiate a setup sequence where each button and it's function are programmed.

I will try giving them a call directly.

You have to splice into the harness that your radio is getting power too, 3 wires in that harness are what you need.

Not sure how I feel about wiring a Dual radio directly into my computers network. Just my opinion.

I got that part of it, but what exactly does the price or brand of the head unit have to do with hooking it up to the cars "network".... Are we afraid it will install a virus, and make it run like a Prius?
What could it possibly harm?
OP, disregard and carry on. Matt seems to be overthinking this one.

I have no problem carrying on with the install, just thinking if wired wrong it could damage the computers in the car. Of course I could be over thinking it.

Hey, most steering wheel controls, SWC, are independent of the rest of the car. If the radio has "Programmable" SWC then there will be 3 wires, or 4. 1. +5V, 2. SWCA 3. SWCB 4. SWC GND.
Usually use +5, SWC A, and GND to the correct wires from the buttons on the Steering wheel and you're good to go....IF the head unit has programmable SWC. GM and other cars can use CAN enabled SWC, as well as some VW and Toyotas. Usually they're resistive ladder type, I'd check further.
