getting bluetooth how important is the nav systems now to you.

android's had it for a while now and the new upgrade for the iphone will include its on mapping system. and iv'e been using the FMV mirror on my 370 for months now. so all systems will offer turn by turn directions via bluetooth there really will be no reason to take your eyes of the road to read a map on some screen.

opinions on this anyone..........

i use google nav in my G and works great. wat i like best is can just call up my contacts in my droid4 and walla, im on my way. i have a motorola roadster2 hooked up so turn by turn can be had via that or through my car stereo.

and map updates are obviously free, same with local POI's.

kinda sad also because they may one day be worth about that.
i'm not saying car dealers won't stick other stuff in a nav but turn by turn
is the coming thing imo

Google maps doesn't work well without service, although if you know where you're going, I think you can preload maps if you know you're going to be out of range. I also like how the onboard system will lower the volume of the audio system when it's giving directions. I guess I just like the always available, nicely intregrated onboard nav, over a cell phone app, plus it doesn't cost me anything to use.

A plus for Google, though, is that the phone map is probably more up to date than the onboard maps. Plus, your google route takes into account traffic, which requires an XM subscription for the onboard nav. I don't live where it really matters much, though.

NAV or being cutting edge high tech has never been necessary for me. But generally speaking,, app head units are the wave of the future. The Z's stock nav is already borderline obsolete and outdated... car audio is progressing way too fast and the design of the Z stock nav won't allow you to upgrade. You would have to trade the whole car to keep up with the jones', if that's your sort of thing??? Non nav, all you have to change is the head unit.

I have had 2 cars with nav and many without it, will never get a car without it again whether it is sttock or aftermarket. I use it at least once a week finding myself out of somewhere I drove. Great for glancing at it to find which side roads cut over to avoid traffic....

I only got the Nav as a package deal. I like it best for the "music box" feature. After two years I used it for the first time, to find a hotel. It worked perfectly. I know I could have found it with a map and or phone call before I left home too, but I did not need to.

The Music box keeps all those CD's out of the car, the blue tooth feature works very well too.

Neither Nav nor blue tooth is important to me.

Make sure you don't roll the vehicle because you'll have to re-download all of the maps again!

i think nav systems are here to stay. but the units will do a whole lot more than just give you directions to the local 7/11.

imo most often used in a car is hands free calling and the nav system. listening to music is a given...

but with smart phones getting smarter with each new one coming out.
i just think watching a nav screen while your driving will become out dated.
not when you can just tell your phone where you won't to go. and then listen to the turn by turn thru your cars speaker system.
