Fiberglass rear speaker enclosures

So I thought I would share the steps to help people figure out how these were built. I got the idea from a fellow members picture album. I will say I am not the original builder of these as seen in the album. I am however trying to replicate them with the limited 1 picture I do have of them.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Made the rings

Pulled the carpet off the panels

Started finding the right angle to mout the rings.

Starting to epoxy the supports

I really enjoy watching things like this being built. It's so very cool to see.

just a quick note, a big time saver is to use box carpet, you can resin it, a little bondo to smooth it out and your done, if all your putting in is a 6.5 it's more then enough.

Omikron 03-26-2012 08:05 AM

Cool, thanks for posting, I always like seeing how stuff like this is made ;)

bigaudiofanat 04-01-2012 02:47 PM

looking good

bigaudiofanat 04-01-2012 05:22 PM

Ya these steps make it all look ugly, tomorrow the beautifying starts!

BigNate 04-01-2012 09:36 PM

When applying body filler you need to try and make sure you apply it in one sweeping motion to make it as flat as possible and make sanding easier. Not to mention that is an awful lot of filler.

Will be installed a little later. I stuffed a little bit of poly fill to help keep vibration down. Keep in mind that I am by no means an expert and wrapping fabric!!! I know there is a bit of overlay behind the speaker.

me too while your here!

davencp33 04-03-2012 04:23 PM

I'm definitely interested in a pair.

Dark Sarcasm 04-03-2012 06:27 PM

do you think a pair of 8's would work in that location? I've always had 12's and 15's but i think i want to try some 8's in the Z. Heard a 350Z with four 8's in the trunk and it sounded really good, but i dont want to lose any trunk space. Whatya think?

BigNate 04-03-2012 07:27 PM

What material is that? Doesn't look like trunkliner which is perfect for that application because it stretches for days without looking like it. I once wrapped all six sides of a sealed enclosure in one piece of trunkliner without cutting it once just for reference. They do look good though

8's would be really tight, I/you would have to raise them and probably title them towards the front a lot more. Also center them to the pod instead of at the side. Last but not least you would have to make sure you had enough air space for them. It would be tight but I think it would be possible.

It is almost like pantyhose only much thicker and more dense. I forget what its called as I had the customer order it ahead of time.

Thank you for the complements. :tiphat::tup:

Dark Sarcasm 04-03-2012 09:01 PM

those look good. I'm gonna look into putting some eights back there.

Hey hey hey, Big. I asked first.

bigaudiofanat 04-04-2012 06:24 PM

Now now, they can both be worked on at the same time.

koffeegy 04-04-2012 06:50 PM

Pm me a price if you would be so kind. Making 4 at a time is just as easy as making 2. Right?

'10Anamoly 04-12-2012 08:03 AM

What about sealed box volume (especially on Hertz speakers) with those custom enclosures? Did you do any measurements?

bigaudiofanat 04-19-2012 11:45 AM

Thanks guys, 10 its a tad small on the airspace however they still work and sound amazing.

I am now taking orders for these PM with what you want to use as a speaker and other details.
