Someone help me out here...

I've been out of the whole stereo thing for a while now, so I have NO idea what's good and what's not. I have the standard stereo set-up right now, but i'm also thinking about weight. I had considered getting a better head unit and just a single set of really good speakers and getting rid of the rest of them... I know there has to be some out there that will fill the car. It's not that big inside anyway lol.

Any ideas?

for a lightweight barebones setup, you could install an alpine headunit and power some component speakers with this:

Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack

Alpine KTP-445 Head Unit Power Pack - YouTube

i suppose you could use one or two of them. that's one way to do the job if you're just looking to run a headunit and front speakers without much weight or hassle.

hm... do you have an install budget in mind?

i take back the alpine power pack suggestion; looks like it's not all it's cracked up to be:

i think a decent aftermarket headunit will power okay, but nicer front components will sound a lot better if they're powered well.

any preference as to headunit brand? i'm guessing you're looking for a single-din in order to save weight, yeah?

yeah, I would like to save some weight... I just figured with some better speakers and headunit I really wouldn't need all that's in there now tbh. There has to be speakers out there that have that surrounding effect I guess you could call it?

I guess I don't really have a budget... it doesn't have to be the highest end of everything... I guess more high end of the mid range. The head unit could just be the mid range, i'd like the speakers to be able to fill the car well if that makes sense?

I have used the power pack and its great for the power you get from it.

Of course its not a full sized amp but over 50 watts RMS is great.

The budget can be as high as the sky or as low as 500-800 bucks total. Alpine head units will allow you to run the power pack which I recommend both. By doing this I would run a set of polk mm or dxi instead of the polk db's.
