Stock 2011 Nismo 370z stereo?
 

Quickie question on the stock stereo on the '11 nismo. Is it a bose or not a bose? I've looked everywhere in the manual/brochure/searched the forum and nothing. I guess that means it's not a bose, but wanted to make sure. I was using the 'outfit my car' feature on crutchfield to shop for an aftermarket stereo and one of the parameters was whether the stock stereo was a bose/non-bose.

Also, I'm thinking of getting a Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT, an ipod/iphone adapter cable, and the Axxess steering wheel adapter (not going for a fancy setup, just something better than the stock setup). Basically, I just wanna be able to hookup my iphone, have nav, and have the steering wheel controls work... do I need to buy anything else other than the above? Do I need to worry about built-in/external amps, etc? Thanks much!

NIsmo got the basic HU, you should have no problems swapping out just the deck with an Aftermarket one. you can get the harness addapter, the basic one, and you will need an attenna addapter.

Just bought a Pioneer 3300 BT for the truck. Very slick. All the things you mentioned plus more. It's double-DIN and fits the 370Z they say. Anyway, I know Crutchfield is the defacto standard, but I was impressed with Sonic Electronix. Good prices. They have a 9.37 rating at Resellerratings.com over 805 reviews compared to Crutchfield's 7.5 rating. I've not had good luck with Crutchfield in recent years.

Super easy system to install. I just replace my headunit and door speakers and that alone sound great. I am now upgrading from that to focals in the doors and tweets and doing a sub.

Little help/pointer on stereo install?

I got my Pioneer AVIC Z120BT from crutchfield yesterday and I've spent almost all night soldering up the wiring harnesses per the instructions/manual. I haven't taken apart my dash yet to see what it looks like in there. I've pretty much read the tear down instructions a hundred times, so hopefully it will go smoothly when I do it tomorrow. Hopefully the wiring harness (pic) crutchfield sent me is the correct one -- I'm pretty sure it is. I also did the parking brake bypass per the instructions from the AVIC411 forum/youtube. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is where the CAR SPEED SIGNAL INPUT and the REVERSE GEAR SIGNAL INPUT (see pic below) need to go. There's also a wire labeled SYSTEM REMOTE CONTROL on the avic harness that I haven't figured out where to hook it to as well. Anyone who's had experience installing the avic who can give me some pointers, I'd really appreciate it.

Car speed signal input? Reverse gear signal input? Where do these attach to?

Reverse signal is used if you want to use a reverse camera and goes into the trunk. The speed signal you do not really need to use as it just helps the gps accuracy a bit. There is a thread in here somewhere about what wire you need if you really want to install that.

Thanks for the reply, bigaudiofanat. You wouldn't happen to know where to tap into the reverse signal that's closer to the dash, would you? According to the installation manual for the avic, both the reverse and speed signal help in the nav accuracy. I would have gotten a reverse camera, but I didn't wanna tear the interior down just to route cables to the back. I'd hate to tear it down just to hook up the reverse signal. I might do it later down the line.

I do not see how a reverse wire would help. But yes you would have to run it to the back just like everyone else. Sorry there is not an easier way.

Install was a success!
 

Took me a day and half, but everything is working! Brake by-pass, axxess swc (all buttons work). The axxess didn't work at first, only the volume buttons worked. I was gonna give up on it, but I persisted and following the docs for manual programming, I finally got them working. And, man, the wiring instructions on the axxess was not at all clear. It's a miracle I wired it up correctly. Also, there's not a whole lot of room behind the HU for all the wires. I had to cut most of the un-used RCA jacks on the pioneer harness to get the HU in. I wasn't planning on using them anyways, so just as well. I can always buy a replacement harness later. I put the mic and the iPod adapter in the cubby hole. So I have to open the cubby hole door to use the speaker phone.

Couple of pics of the result of my hard work below.

Quickie question... anyone know or have any recommendation on aftermarket speakers that are drop-in replacements for the stock door speakers? Ones that don't require new speaker wires, special mounts, etc., I'm just looking for something that will sound better with the pioneer z120bt. The stock speakers aren't very good.

I'm resurrecting this old post...

I just bought a 2012 Nismo yesterday after owning a 2004 350Z Roadster for several years with the Bose system.

The Bose system was good for its time, but not great... but what a rude awakening stepping into the 4 speaker stock stereo in the 370 Nismo.

Has anybody since had any good experiences replacing the head unit and stock speakers? It's suddenly #1 on my priority list.

Also, I'd like to add a sub if it can be done without drastic modification or eating up precious cargo space.

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated. :)

The stock system in the Nismo isn't Bose, but I'll peruse and see if there's anything pertinent in that thread.
