I'm actually in Howard County, so thats quite close. Well you do have the bose system so i'm sure they don't sound bad. I on the other hand have the factory and can't wait to rip those suckers out. I bought the JL c5-650 to take the place, now i'm trying to decide if its worth putting in 4" speakers. Do you find that the kenwood has enough tuning options other than ur typical bass treble settings. For example can you tune the frequencies? of the subs? etc...

was wondering did you need a wire harness? If so can you post a picture of that and the ant. adapter, I'm not sure where to get it.....

Just a tip for others. If there is room under your dash near the top you don't have to mount your XM or NAV antenna on the dash. Put it under the dash facing up. On the 350z, I mounted my 5140 NAV antenna right under the middle console gauges. There is a space between the beam, and wire harness and it fit perfect in that spot. Full bars on the signal and it's concealed.
As long as there is no metal between it and the sky the antenna will pass plastic without any problems. |

This is the last picture I need to post. I had to move the Blue Tooth Mic out of the location where the OEM Mic was located. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the Parrot Mic just did not work well there. So it's now located here...

Hi Arizona Z,
When you did your install did you hook up the "Dimmer Control Wire"? If so what wire (color) did you hook it to and where did you find it? Also, how about the mute wire, where did you hook that one up to? One other question, the blue wire on the Antenna adapter does this need to be hooked up to anything? If so what and where. I didn't hook up either of those wires on my install as they were not needed.

Now that I'm getting around the 7140, and have "Mastered" it! I'm tempted to add speakers to it. I have the Bose system now. Anyone with ideas for getting new speakers and keeping the Bose sub? Is this a bad idea?

So I have my DDX714 installed and i noticed it takes quite some time to switch tracks. Does anyone else have this problem?
As far as speakers go. Depending on how much work you wanna do you could get a set of two way components or a set of three way (which would be more expensive and more difficult to install). I think a nice set up for you would be to go with some two way components up front and if you want..... you could get some 3 or 4 coaxials int he back. I dont' remember what size they are. You could then use the setting on the receiver to adjust appropriately. I personally have some 3 way components up front no rears and a 12" kicker L7 in the back and i really like how it sounds. This is hooked up to a T1500-1bd mono amp and a T400-4 4 channel amp. I am pretty satisfied with this, but perhaps one day i'll get some rear speakers since i do have the ddx714 and it has those delay capabilities. On a side note....I would strongly recommend a 4 channel amp, there is plenty of space for it underneath the bar that runs across the car. |
I would definitely go nuts with the speakers now. You invested alot of money when you could have gotten the Nissan Nav for quite a bit less (but no backup camera) when you bought the car, and much better integration. If I invested what you did, I would definitely get some amps, new speakers and a nice sub. Then you will truly have something that blows the doors off the Nissan Bose system. It is a great looking install you have there. I think the Garmin Nav system is much more user friendly than the Nissan system, and it is cool how it is integrated in the Kenwood. I got tired of having Navs stuck to my windshield and having to put them away all the time, so I just went with the integrated system that was offered by Nissan.

Not having read every post in the thread, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned. Kenwood has a compatibility check on their website (Bluetooth Compatibility List | Kenwood Corporation) which allows you to search by both the Kenwood product and the phone to see if it is compatible and with what features. It even tells you if it is a limit of the phone or the unit.
In the case of the iPhone 3G it looks like to phone doesn't support it, but hopefully we will get the option with iPhone OS 3.0. |

Question regarding DIY for anybody who has, or would DIY: do I solder or crimp the wires if installing a HU (dnx5120) and speakers into a 370Z?

And currently, Crutchfield is adding a free back-up cam to the expensive orders. Would you recommend the back-up cam you used, or the Boyo Rear-View, which is free? I've read reviews that the Boyo chrome flakes and rust, so does your cam do the same? If anyone has any suggestions on good H/Us, please let me know. I would like one that basically has everything. Speakers and Amps will have to wait another day though. |

hey guys..just need some info on this topic as i have searching different threads and the information conflicts....
some people are saying its very hard to hook up an after market head unit with Bose system? is it true. and second do you have to buy a separate GPS system along with the headunit as im in dubai and this wont work here so want to buy accordingly. I dont know to me without the nav up top, putting a screen with no controls around it kinda makes the whole area look like its missing something. Im sure the unit is nice but just looks more plain now. Now if the nav was there up top then I think it would blend in better, but then you wouldnt need to get the new HU then. Did you change out speakers too? Did the new HU make any difference in the sound quality?

Well by putting a req in you need a new amp and a new sub. The req just cleans the signal for a new amp to take in. You would probably be more happy to get a JL clean sweep and add a new amp and new speakers.

What the installers did was fine, the req and jl get the amped signal and than clean it. If everything was tuned properly nothing should go bad in a year. Yes you will not need a new harness but you will have to tap into the wires coming out of the stereo amp and run them to the jl and also have the req for the sub. The JL is the same as the req but for the speakers.
