Backup camera cmos300 trouble shooting

BigAudio, Treeseemedy, and other audio studs, help me pls. Just got my Kenwood DNX9960 and cmos 300 bu camera installed and everything works great except my installer said that the dnx9960 has internal camera adjustments onboard so he didnt install the backup camera button. We couldn't figure out how to make the headunit recognize the camera. When you select it, the screen changes and it asks you if you want to view your camera. It doesnt actually recognize the cmos300. So my question is, how do I make the dnx9960 recognize the cmos 300 bu camera? Thanks!

I have the DDX 616 unit, and what I had to do was change the "RCAM interrupt" option.

Easy fix. You have to go to the "Camera Settings" screen and select CMOS-300. If you can't, the installer didn't put it in correctly.
To change to different views, you touch the right side of the screen when the camera is viewing. To turn the lines on and off, you touch the left side.

SInce the installer didn't install the switch (which is correct for the 9960), he should have installed this wire in place of it. This is what allows the HU to control the CMOS.

Ok well my installer checked to make sure he installed it right, and he did, and he did install the headunit connection cord. Were both stumped and its really frustrating since I paid buckooo bucks for this. grrrrrr

Did you click the CMOS-300 button shown in my picture?

Ya when I click it the screen changes and it asks me if I want to view my rear camera. When I select yes, it takes me back to the camera selection screen with the other camera highlighted. It's like it won't recognize the CMOS 300

I think I might have figured it out.
Mine did the same thing when I first hooked it up. I followed some of directions on here and powered the camera off of the backup wire. It needs to be connected to accessory power to work right.
To test this, put the car in reverse and try your on-screen setup again.

OK I figured it out! Once I selected the cmos 300 camera, it asks me if I want to view the rear camera, I then put the car in reverse and click yes. Then, when it takes me back to the camera selection screen, I select the cmos 300 and the guideline set-up screen came up right away. Tree you're the man! rep added! Cant thank you enough! I gotta say its almost orgasmic when I properly troubleshoot something until i figure it out!

Awesome. If you want to be able to turn the camera on without being in reverse, you'll have to run the power wire to your auxiliary power. Mine is that way and I can push and hold my "AUD" button and the camera turns on without being in reverse.
By doing this, you can access the camera in any gear. Reverse will turn it on, but you can also trigger it with the "AUD" button.

Ok so I found out how to set the guidelines and do the set up for the camera. My problem is that everytime I turn the car off, all the settings are reset again. I cannot touch the screen to turn the guidelines on/off or change views. I have to start all over with the guideline set up again. My radio stations are set and do not get reset only my rearview camera. Help???

That relates to what I've described above. You need to have the power connected to auxiliary power instead of the reverse/backup light wire.

Ok apparently the reset was because of an older firmware. I installed version 1.5 and no more resets. Buuuuuut, I can't get my iPhone 4 to play iPod songs. Like it's actually playing on the headunit but no sound is coming out. Wth if ita not one thing it's another :)

I have a case on my iPhone that I'll have to remove to try it out, but do you have Bluetooth turned on for the iPhone and the receiver? If so, it might be overriding the cable. I'll have to try it out tomorrow and see what happens with mine.

Ok so hours and no go. I am hooking up my iphone 4 through usb to one of the usb cables from the head-unit that is labeled ipod. Everything shows up but no sound. So weird. Kenwood reps are so worthless too, I know more about the unit than they do, They didnt even know what the most recent update was or what it did.

TreeSemdyZee 01-02-2011 07:58 PM

Ok. Now we're getting somewhere. You can't hook up and operate the iPhone/iPod with a standard USB cable. You have to have a special cable (link below). You can however stream music using Bluetooth. You can't control the iPod that way, but you can play music anyway.

Kenwood - KCA-iP301V

I'll check mine out tomorrow evening to make sure that cable works properly with the iPhone 4 before you spend your money.
