Hey Brian. Sorry if my original comment cast a shadow over the bypass kit.

I want to restate to everyone following this thread that my camera issue is in NO WAY related to Brian's Bypass Kit. This kit works great and is of professional quality, just like his other products. If anyone is looking into this kit you should not hesitate due to the aforementioned CAMERA kit blips. Happy modding!

No problem, I know that wasn't your intent and thanks for the kind words.

I don't see how anyone wouldn't want this. It is so cool to be able to input nav instructions without pulling over now! And the rear view mirror on the nav screen is what the car has been missing all along. I am just worried I will wear out the switch--lol. At least replacing the switch would only take about a minute:driving:

Yes, I agree! Grabbing one of these kits while available is a wise move for those with Nav. A more then terrific offering at a bargain price. Reality is if you have a pricey 370Z with Nav, many of it's goodies are crippled thanks to Nissan. Crippled unless you do something about it. This kit over-rides the crippling! Install of this kit is a no brainer/easy, easy.

Should BDL99 not offer this kit for some reason in the future you will really regret not getting the kit when you had the opportunity to. I have had the opportunity to see and benefit from this kit and all I can say is BDL99 you get the prize for this one!

Thanks to the BDL Bypass Kit, you have full, unrestricted use of the Nav system, full unrestricted use of your blue-tooth enabled cellphone. Another plus is DVD playing while driving for your passenger to enjoy. Also, slide show presentation via USB input while driving is not crippled. Another bigge is the rear camera (if you have one) can be turned on when driving forward and you can view the side blind spots where other vehicles lurk. This is terrific in bad traffic situations especially.

The kit is plug and play. No cutting of factory wires, etc.. Easy to install. A terrific add on to one's Z with Nav. Well worth the $149.99 BDL99 is asking for it. Actually, I'm surprized he is selling it for so little.

Indeed the kit that Brian is making uses a connector that is not compatible with your 2009. You know, you can if you have the urge, cut a couple of wires, add a switch and have the bypass. Brian's kit for the 2010-2011 370Z is terrific because it is plug and play, no cutting etc. kit, but reality is you can do as I mentioned and get pretty much the same results as the bypass kit but yes, you need to cut wires, etc..

As for those with a 2010 -2011, with pricey Nav you are really missing the boat if you do not get Brian's kit while he is offering same.. The factory Nav, phone, camera, etc. is crippled lots and this crippling really kills the functionality that is available of a 370Z with Nav..

Question:
Can those of us 09'ers possably swap out the unit itself for a 2010 deck? They should be a direct replacement on form and fit, but I don't know about the interface or the actuall harness on the car itself. Any ideas? I really just want it for the DVD option as I'm preping mine for car show status & a few screens are already waiting on a DVD source & this bypass/back up camera is a dream come true.

Swapping out the unit would be a fairly significant undertaking because all the connectors are different. Does your 2009 have the nav albeit the 2009 version? If so, the cutting and joining of the wires is not difficult, but you do need to cut. I could provide The rest of the kit pre-wired and in would be a simple case of cutting the three wires and joining the six resulting ends to my harness. If I could find a source of 40pin sockets I could make a 2009 kit but they even the manufactures have said they are not available.

V8Killer 07-16-2011 07:31 PM

You say 40pin sockets. What would it look like? I am sure somebody has them but they are simply using them for something else.

I can post a picture with details. The problem is the connector is the one on the AV unit, so even Nissan don't use what I need. I've managed to source the 8,12,18,24 and 32 pin versions from Japan, but the manufacturer of the connectors only list the 40 pin plug (that plugs in to the AV unit) but not the socket.

Find a friend that is somewhat competent with a soldering iron and heat shrink, buy a couple of diodes from Radio Shack, and build the harness yourself for the 2009 model. There are several wiring diagrams online for DIY'ers. I have done three cars myself without the kit and had very good results. Brian's kit is FAR more elegant and much more user friendly and worth every penny.

V8Killer 07-17-2011 12:56 AM

Ya I am not much of a DIY'er I am the I pay you do type.

I think you could make a nice little profit off of Bryan's kit buy upgrading us 2K9's with your mod. I'd be in if your ever willing to build them... Oh and sourcing us a used 2010 unit would be badass as well lol.

UPDATE: I only speak on the fact that I'd DEFANTLY be swapping out my deck at the same time as installing Brian's kit & camera. Not to undersale his work. I just need that 2010 harness to make it all work!

wheee! 07-18-2011 05:20 PM

The mod I do is to the existing harness in the 2010 car, thus I need the car with me to facilitate the mod. I have done this to my car and two others quite easily ( I am an elec. tech) HOWEVER, the only reason I have done this was because I am somewhat handy with a soldering iron and because Brian was experiencing a family loss at the time I wanted to do the mod. I bought his camera harness kit first and was extremely happy with the quality and build, and would have purchased the NAV/Camera/DVD hack too if it would have been available at the time.

BUY BRIAN'S MOD! It's worth every penny....
Having said that, I am happy to do mods like this for materials cost plus a coffee to anyone in the Edmonton area, lol!

Otherwise, NAVTool for 2009 cars plus the soldering hack: 2010 Hack HERE. Just use the 2009 FSM for the correct pinouts for power and VSS. The DVD would have to be connected via the NAVtool and the Camera would activate thru the Navtool as well.

As for building a harness to connect a 2010 head to the 2009 vehicle... :icon14:.... I don't know. The screen is different too....
