Pioneer AVIC-X920BT

So I am looking it at this right now... but what are the best pioneer in your opinion for your z?
in money wise and spec wise?

JayYoon 08-14-2010 01:54 AM

actually... whats the best pioneer thats the cheapest but comes with gps?!

chuckd05 08-14-2010 02:08 AM

I have the deck and love it... there are some pioneer haters on here but I am a fan.. I have not had any other Double DIN head units to compare but to me its all I need and wanted out of a HU ...

Pandora Link however has no updated to a multi tasking app for 4.0 so I find myself using regular pandora way more than the actual pandora link that is pretty much the selling point of that new model. Im sure one of these days a update will come out, but if you have an iphone on os4 when you close out of pandora link ( the app that runs on the phone to get the Head Unit to use its pandora ) the music stops playing. If you just use your cable go into the regular pandora app you can leave that app to text, call, etc and it will still play.

other than that the deck has been fantastic.

JayYoon 08-14-2010 02:28 AM

i am just scare that what if i buy some pioneer unit and it doesnt fit... should i be worry?

Caravanshaka 08-14-2010 09:25 AM

http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/2...gh-amazon.html

It will fit, a couple people with Z's already have it.

If you have a touring package, you will need a dash kit, and no matter what you will want a wiring harness and antenna adapter

bigaudiofanat 08-14-2010 10:25 AM

All double dins fit your z fine as well as all single dine using a dash kit.

kenchan 08-14-2010 02:24 PM

how about you try pioneer electrionics official home page for full specs? :D

DeEePiDDy 08-14-2010 02:33 PM

You need to purchase the iPod cable separately.. It's the Pioneer CD-IU50V.. about $50

jetguy 08-14-2010 03:46 PM

i have a android phone, what will be the best audio quality to interface the phone to this head unit? 3.5 to rca, 3.5 to 3.5, or other i dont know about. is there a way to get music out of my android phones micro usb port to the headunit and still charge the phone at the same time?

bigaudiofanat 08-14-2010 03:49 PM

Using a aux input from your headphone jack of your droid phone to a aux input.

JayYoon 08-14-2010 03:51 PM

I think you should install it yourself, and save that $250 for something else.

I'm an avid "do-it-your-selfer" and prefer to do things myself than pay someone to do it for me...and forums like these are exactly how you can become one too. There are plenty of posts on here to help you. If all you are doing is changing out the headunit only; it should take no more than say 30 minutes to get this done...an hour if you want to go slow.

kenchan 08-14-2010 05:43 PM

give yourself a couple of hours. no need to take it fast, just go at your pace and make
sure you dont scratch up the trim or miss any steps in the wiring. there are plenty of DIY
with pictures in this forum!

if you're going to do the rear view cam also consider doing the rear fog lamp at the
same time if you're going to run your own wires. :)

chuckd05 08-14-2010 06:13 PM

My local stereo shop thats been around for ages did mine for $150 with the rear view camera... I was suprised at that price so I gladly let them do it... Just make sure you have feedback on the shop you are using...

I would not trust best buy , unless I went in there and personally saw the installer that was going to be working on my car, doing work and see that he knew exactly what he was doing. But i still prob wouldnt let best buy touch it....

Check to see if they have an android cable from pioneer not sure if they do though, Ipod one is 50 like others said , dont get the knock off.

G Fo12ce 08-14-2010 06:56 PM

I actually just order this HU from Amazon.

Just to clarify, you only need the Metra dash kit if you have a Bose/Touring right?

I have a NISMO (same as base stereo) so I shouldn't need it correct?

Correct. On my base I'm running stock trim bezel for my 3100DVD. :). You might need to make a gasket trim for it if your HU does not come with one.

Sosche makes the dd trim to fill the gap ( sold at amazon. It's like $10.)

Good to know x2, thanks for the bezel info. I'll go give someone rep so I can give you another lol.

:ninja3: I think this is what you are referring to:
Scosche Double DIN Trim

kenchan 08-14-2010 10:21 PM

Yep, there's also one that you can trim the center divider off on 2 single space dd trim. Or, you can do what I did on the Z and get some EZ felt from arts stores, cut it to size and make it fit. The car's bezel has reinforcement fins on the back side so you need to do some cutting to make it fit perfectly. EZ felt is very easy to cut and trim. I use this stuff all the time on my car installs. :p

JayYoon 08-15-2010 02:35 AM

So would this model avic x920bt... do i need a dash kit? like i have 370z base...

JayYoon 08-15-2010 02:45 AM

So far this is what i am going to buy...

Pioneer CD-IU50V USB Interface Cable for iPod/iPhone
Scosche NAA2B 2007 Nissan Antenna Adapter
Scosche NN04B 2007-Up Nissan Car Stereo Connector
Pioneer AVIC-X920BT
Pioneer ND-BC4 Universal Rear View Camera

Is there anything else that i need?

Another thing... I am at newegg and is "Pioneer CD-IU50V" same as "PAC Audio iC-PIOUSB50V"?
On Amazon "Pioneer CD-IU50V" pops out and on newegg "PAC Audio iC-PIOUSB50V" pops out...
Which is the right fit?

kenchan 08-15-2010 07:09 AM

If you're wanting the steering control buttons to work, I used the PAC-PS (pioneer/sony) one. Works great.

Check in my albums page under G35C and there is a pict of a blue box I am holding with wires zip tied to it. That's the PAC PS. I took that pict like 2 days ago while doing the 4100 in my G. :p

kenchan 08-15-2010 07:55 AM

Jay- btw, you will want to have other basic tools and supplies handy like soldering iron, crimps, taps, wire stripper, e-tape, zip ties, long nose pliers, nippers, screw drivers, etc to make your install go smoother. Do you have such tools handy?

JayYoon 08-15-2010 03:22 PM

Is it this one?
Amazon.com: PAC SWI-PS Sony and Pioneer Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface: Automotive

Does this work well on 370z?
btw kenchan... i am so jealous of your garage!!!

kenchan 08-15-2010 03:26 PM

Yah, they show pict of the old version (PAC-PS) but it works just as good as the new. :)

I also have used a Perpheral brand module and they work great too. :)

JayYoon 08-15-2010 03:27 PM

Another quick question, do you think that i will need Scosche Double DIN Trim?

I highly reccomend these as well for interior work. You don't want to gouge or poke at soft interior peices with metal tool when removing panels:

kenchan 08-15-2010 06:36 PM

Good call! I have the exact trim removal set. :p

But I'm not sure if I used it on the Z's HU install...

JayYoon 08-15-2010 06:36 PM

G Fo12ce thank you for your recommendation!
Btw where do you guys have your ipod cable come out to?
Anyone got a pix?

G Fo12ce 08-15-2010 06:46 PM

I haven't decided yet, but I plan to get a nice grommet from a local electronics supply so it looks clean instead of a drilled hole. I did that in my wifes car for her DICE iPod kit. I'm leaning toward the upper glove box but not sure.

Grommet (they come in various diameters):

kenchan 08-15-2010 09:14 PM

i just made my own gasket like below using EZ felt black. this is on my G, but the same for my Z for its USB cable going to my Nuvi inside the cubby. double stick tape or use a glue gun. the black matches the inside well, but the flash made it a werd color in the pict.

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...side-cubby.jpg

this is the outside. the circle and line on masking tape is where and how i cut the EZ felt.

Yep, I'm not a ipod user. :p

G Fo12ce 08-16-2010 06:21 PM

Ok so I'm a little confised about something.

This cable (Pioneer CD-IU50V) I've read is only necessary when you want to play video from your iPod, other wise the USB on the front can be connected to it with any regular iPod cable.

The thing is I don't want a cable conected to the front. Is it safe to assume the CD-IU50V cable connects to the back of the head unit so I can then run it to another area (glove box or where ever).

Hold on does this unit come with any accessories? like a cable that connects to your iphone or usb?
i checked the site and i couldnt fine any...

And this product... if ur ipod or iphone is plugged in... if u were to click next on the interface (not ur ipod) will it would go to the next track?

bigaudiofanat 08-17-2010 08:55 AM

No you must supply the cable for ipod that is how most companies are.

For just audio you can use your usb cord that came with your ipod but if you want video you have to but the ipod video cord.
