What kind of apps are you using in the car? Some specialized music player? I would imagine it would be extremely hard to operate the standard music app.

Before I switched out my deck, i was using the adapter port with my Iphone. I always just used a playlist and set it on Random before driving.
I would think this would be convenient not really a problem. Pretty much the same thing as an Iphone just bigger.

Too me, there is not enough space in the car for me to want to use one. But he seems happy with it. If I could, I would use my ipad much more then my iphone, which I do, just cant in that car.. too small.

Very clean install by the way. When I went to have mine done they originally wanted to do a similar install, but I was looking for an even closer to factory look. I had them make a custom center dash piece to accomodate the ipad and the front and rear radar detector and laser jammers. I like what they originally did but it still needs a little work (which is why it is back with them). I sent it back to the shop to have the radar detector controls mounted flush instead of sticking out, and to also put a little slot in the top right hand corner to get your finger in there to pop it out instead of having to use a tool. Other than that everything works perfect and very happy with the install. Doesnt look out of place at all in the Z.

When I get my car back ill upload some up to date pictures. (This is just initial install and I had them rush as I was leaving for vacation with my car).

I read this whole thread and I must ask what exactly do you use the iPad for? Is it navigation and music? I'm not seeing the practical use here. Would a good quality double din unit not be the same thing and better sound? Seems like a distraction more than anything.

:iagree:

It looks cool though.

in theory I like the idea. i've seen it done very neatly and looks factory in a navigator... but I agree that it's too big in a z. I'd wait for the 7 inch ipad mini to come out

asdfsammich 10-06-2012 01:33 PM

Yep. A 7" iPad that's a clean install yet still easily removed would be perfect.

Hoping its announced soon.

Tapatalk & such etc

My goal is to fit a 7" iPad Mini also (if it does get announced).

Yes it is mostly used only for music and navigation. The reason I have it is simply because not a lot of people have it and it is somewhat unique. For me it wasnt a cost issue or anything like that for not going with a double din instead. And personally I don't think the iPad is too big for the Z. If you actually sit in the car with it installed you'll see it's perfect size. As for being a distraction, you can always dim the light on it. Too be honest I barely even touch it. Just to change the music, even then I have controls where my seat temp controls were to change the song if need be.

I like it. I think it would have looked better if it were flush (dunno if it's possible). But I like it.

That's why it's back in the shop, to make everything flush.
