Matt (bigaudiofanat) did mine a few months back and it works GREAT! I have a Kenwood DNX6960 (which he also installed).

^Do you have the Pac or the Metra Axxess?

fairlady_Z 06-08-2010 03:13 PM

Pac

Yes,

What you have to do is install the resistors to the wires that it specifies. We decided to cut them out of the harness and solder them directly to the resistors. After fiddling with it I found out that you have to prepare the pac for programing. You have to make it go into version 3 or 4 "can not remember" before you start programing or before it will start recognizing the buttons you press. You do this by "with what I remember" turning the car off holding the program button in turn the car on when it starts flashing press the button how many times fo the correct version after that it will blink saying what version it is in. Than turn the car off that back on to start programming. If you need more help please ask. I hope this helps though.

Is the Pac a pain in the A$$ as everyone says it is? Is it bad enough to switch to the Metra Axxess kit?

No rippage needed. See my post.

Why not go with Axxess, it doesnt have the time lag like Pac and it auto programs as well!

I'm just gonna switch it for the metra kit, I heard it's confusing to wire, does anyone that has the metra kit know how it's wired?

TreeSemdyZee 06-09-2010 12:42 PM

The Metra wiring is similar to the PAC. Still uses the pink and blue wires.
The pink in the car is the source and track up/down switch on the steering. The blue wire is the volume just for clarification's sake.
Metra's instructions are a whole lot less confusing so you shouldn't really have a big issue.

^what did you do about the upgrade cable, did you buy it?

TreeSemdyZee 06-09-2010 06:39 PM

^ Yes. I eBayed it. I don't know that it's necessary. I installed two different head units, so on the second one, I ended up doing the manual programming and it was pretty easy. You could install the unit and if it didn't work properly, it's simple to take the box out while leaving all of the wiring in. Take it to your computer, update it, then reinstall.

I put it in so that all I need to do to remove the brain unit is to pull up the shift surround and then I can reach in and disconnect the box.

Do you still have the USB cord? Anyway you could ship it to me & I'll update my unit then ship it back to you.

TreeSemdyZee 06-09-2010 07:20 PM

Sure. PM me your address. And I'll send it.

NewYorkJon34 06-09-2010 07:27 PM

I just ordered the metra kit off amazon, I really appreciate it and don't worry others on the site can vouch for me that I'm a good guy so your cord will be safe. And I'll send you the tracking number when I send it back even. You update the unit on the metra website right?
