I did the installation yesterday. It didn’t go as smooth as I hoped, but it’s in and working. One of the big hang-ups I had was with the HD Radio adaptor. I wasn’t able to install it because it requires an antenna adaptor because Nissan uses a proprietary antenna plug. I ordered the adaptor, so I will have to install that at a later date.

The iPod controller was physically easy to install, but the user directions I downloaded weren’t correct, so I called Technical Support. They were very helpful. After talking with them for a few minutes it was up and running. Turns out the directions were made for a different radio. The directions tell you to access the iPod through the “Aux” button on the face of the radio, but that’s wrong. You need to use the “Sat” button instead.

The sound quality is good. You’re no longer able to use the volume on the face of the iPod. The volume is solely controlled through the stereo. I connected one iPod to the docking cable and another to the Aux input and played the same song on both while switching back and forth between the two. Sound quality is the same, but you’re able to get more volume out of the Aux input because you can use the volume control on the iPod as well as the stereo, but that distorts quicker, so it evens out. The docked iPod also charges, which is a nice feature.

The controls are a little weird and will take some time to get used to. I haven’t had much time to mess around with them, but once I do I’ll post my thoughts.

I’m working on a full DIY guide and will post it in the DIY section as soon as it’s finished, and will be sure to let all of you know when it’s posted.

One last thing, when I called technical support I found out that the manufacturers of UPAC and iSimple are the same company.
