Anyway to update 09' Navi to the 10' Model?
So after seeing some recent post about the improvements done to the 2010 navigation system, I cam across an original post which showed dealership update DVD's.
To any of the dealers or forum members out there, is there any way to upgrade the firmware /software of the 2009 navigation system to be up to date with the new 2010 navigation system. I know the differences are minor, but the added functionality would be cool. |
Great Question. I have never seen a OS update. Only maps.

care to elaborate on the differences?

+1 would love to know if the only difference is software.

I seriously doubt a software upgrade will get you there without integrating the screen and DVD player. :twocents:

I know the new software allows for more than 512 songs from the CF card and the other differences stated in the video.

Here is what I got from Nissan Corp.
"It is not a simple plug and play nor is it a quick flash of the system to change it. While it can be done, it is cost-prohibitive. The changes in the system is not just an OS and firmware as some might think, hardware is totally different. I believe that even some of the harnesses are different. Short of buying a 2010 unit and swapping everything attached to the 08IT system, it would be very painful to do such a swap." |
but what differences are they talking about? i didn't even realize they upgraded it O_o
|
Really the layout and interface. The biggest difference is the ipod interface. 2010's is so nice for ipod.

thats bs. sorry, but us 09 owners have ipod/iphones too and kinda wish they worked like they are supposed to. Thanks for the info, time to complain.

the iPod/iPhone interface is probably the best i've seen on a car INCLUDING aftermarket systems, it works pretty flawlessly except the one or two times it didn't recognize the USB device for me which all i had to do was replug it in and it worked again...it's fast and shows album artwork and the menus are very intuitive
from what i've seen of the '09 Nav in videos, the UI is pretty similar but the '10s are just 'prettier'...i believe the screen is also a higher resolution and the '10s have a DVD player capable of playing DVD movies...my past 4 cars have now had Nav and the one in my '10 Roadster is by far the best, most customizable one and it works so incredibly well with an iPod/iPhone |
yeah I wish it was easier.
I cant use my ipod so I am stuck at using the 6 cd changer which is hardly enough for my music |
Thanks for the valuable info, Fusz! I was wondering this myself as I have always been frustrated that a) to use the HD I have to manually insert CDs one at a time, and b) the CF card is limited to a ridiculous 512 songs. Bummer to hear that it isn't an easy upgrade. Do you have any pricing info (even a ballpark) on what it might take to swap an '09 for an '10 nav unit?
|
I'm actually interested in the swap as well. I was very disappointed when the 10 unit was able to stream audio thru Bluetooth and that instead of a ipod connector in the center armrest, they put a usb port. Please let us know what the costs would be to swap, if it is even possible.
