New install - integrating OEM features (questions)

Default New install - integrating OEM features (questions)

I had a stereo system installed in my Z a couple months ago. The workmanship guarantee has lapsed, and like my luck runs, the stereo system has started having issues. On my own investigation, the install looks to have been done rather sloppy.

I'm going to give another shop a chance at making this right, so I'm swapping out the current system for a new one, but I wanted to ask:

Can you, or do you now, have use of the factory USB and AUX ports in the center console? I don't. I want them.

I don't like having extra crap mounted up, so I'm wondering if I could forego the external volume control for my powered subwoofer?

Tapping into the factory aux and USB should be easy enough for any decent shop, I know my installer could. This assumes your headunit has those inputs.

As for your external volume, I'm not sure about that... you're talking about a remote gain control, I assume? Most of those you can just set it at a level and forget it, and if it is run off a dedicated output from your headunit, lots of them will allow you to adjust them through the headunit's menu, or just leave it set at a certain level all the time, if you prefer.

Thanks for the reply. I would have thought it easy enough to integrate the factory USB and AUX ports into my system, but apparently not since my shop neglected to even try that. As for the sub, yeah I suppose it's best decribed as a remote gain. I just don't want to mount that up if I don't have to and can set the gain on the unit and then control the bass output from the headunit through the EQ.
