Can you please explain why this is significant?

In calculating their peak diaphragm displacement volume (if I'm getting this right), the TM65 III is at 1258. I've been really happy with my 165's with a noticably lower 390. I just don't know what that means in application.

Is it basically having to move 3x less to hit the same frequencies? More efficient, meaning more volume out of the same power?

Well, I'm not a math whiz, but I after not having my car for 3 weeks then getting back in, I'm thinking there has to be room for improvement from the Hertz. I've had them for a year, but I just think there's additional room for improvement, however I cannot quantify the differences, but did notice the wild difference in xmax between the two brands which leads me to believe that the TM's must put out more bass / play louder.

I'll let Ron / others chime in on the technical part.

It doesn't have to get technical. The watered down version is this...To make lower frequencies (bass) you need to move air. The higher the xmax, the more cone travel you have to move air.

On a slightly more technical note, its the point where the speaker becomes non-linear, and distortion starts to increase.
Why build a speaker that can travel past the point of low distortion, you ask? Well, mainly, there are forms of distortion that are pleasing to our ears, and SPL also increases with distortion.
There are more technical aspects of it, but I'm not the guy to answer that deeply into it.

It's funny, amazing actually how wrong you are in just about every post you make. I honestly don't know why people come to you for answers.

Your arrogance precedes you, and no one likes an arrogant person. :gtfo2:

Kind of harsh.. He has contributed a great deal of info here over the years, Majority of it good stuff.
So he doesn't think highly of the bazooka tubes, who cares?? they're in your car. Your the only one who needs to like them.
I think they get a bad Rap, mostly because those who tend to buy them have no clue how to set them up, or buy an 8 and push it like its a 12.
I have used them in the past with great results, always liked them.....and Just now realized that they are still selling them. They must be doing something right.

Yeah well, sometimes I tend to be a bit harsh, and sometimes for good reason. Just because someone contributes a lot doesn't make them right about everything, as I have bit my tongue plenty of times in the past reading his posts.

I don't claim the Bazooka's are the best thing out there, but they're nowhere near as "horrible" as the uneducated think they are.

And then there's this that I just found today by accident...

I can throw in my $0.02 with the TM65mkIIs. I have 2 pair in my Tahoe in very well made doors and they freaking ROCK.

I have a 3rd pair sitting on a shelf waiting to replace the Dynaudio MW170s in my 370z. I hope to swap those out soon, they've been sitting there a couple of years while I took a bit of a hiatus. Here's what they look like in the The Hoe:

And this is the back end of the Z - I need to find some decent grills that have enough clearance for 28mm of Xmax on my subs:

That they do... that they do. :D Needed something to keep up with the HLCDs under the dash.

Zapco Z-150.6 running the front stage, ZX-6.5kd running the subs. She gets loud. :D

And a daily driver with everything hidden. Also important.
