Alpine ILX-007

Has anyone installed one of these in the OEM non-nav unit locations below the cubby?

Alpine

It looks like a pretty nice streamlined product that has the ability to add a backup cam etc.

Any input would be appreciated!

Cheers,

I just bought one of these. I haven’t had a chance to install it yet, been away on business. I currently have the factory NAV system and will be deleting it and installing the iLX-007 in the cubby area where the factory NAV screen goes since the IlX-007 is only 3” thick. I should be doing the install around the end of June or early July. Keep an eye open on this section of the forum because I will be posting about it because of the place I plan on mounting it.

Awesome look forward to seeing your review.

IMO I wouldn't put money towards an Alpine system. Their features a lacking and the software they use is dated when compared to other aftermarket mfgs at similar price points.

I'd be all over this one.... if it had Bluetooth

Their CarPlay is supposed to be much less buggy than others though.

I think you missed the point of this hu. It is meant to be streamlined.

I thought the lack of Bluetooth would be con but I realized I always have my phone plugged in so having to plug it in vice using Bluetooth is a non-issue for me.

I came to the same conclusion until I remembered that I wanted to run DashCommand on it, which needs a Bluetooth dongle in the OBDII port.

Ended up ordering Pioneer SPH-DA120 instead. If that was a good move or not is yet to be determined however.

Wouldn't the OBDII Bluetooth dongle be talking to your phone, not the head unit? Apps that can be run via CarPlay (like DashCommand) are being run on the phone not the head unit. I remember seeing an iLX-007 review where the guy reviewing it was using DashCommand. Well, I have an OBDII Bluetooth dongle and use DashCommand so I guess we'll find out after I install mine.

I'm tempted to agree with that. Not sure if I was over or underthinking the Bluetooth problem. It does make sense. I already order the da120 yesterday, so if you confirm DashCommand works I can always out the da120 in the DD and grab the ILX.

All I could find for a reference was this thread on Palmer who I think makes DashCommand.

dahcommand

It is a year old post so perhaps things have changed. I'm tempted to grab an Ilx 007 on my way home and give it a try.. though it doesn't sound terribly hopeful

Subbing this. I'm looking forward to your reviews as its something to consider when comparing this new Alpine unit and the new Kenwoods coming out

ChaseZ 05-30-2016 07:57 PM

Grabbed the 007, not least of all because they gave me a smoking price. And have two weeks to play with it and if I can't get dash command to work can bring it back.

The rest of my components should arrive over the next week so should be plenty of time.

Fingers crossed...

Palmer Performance does offer OBDII adapters that function over wifi and usb so maybe that's the ticket - albeit a more expensive option than a standard elm327. Though I seem to recall the 007 only has one rear usb input. Maybe the head unit will grab my phones wifi and can use it that way. Somehow I'd expect a bit more information on this or CarPlay on DashCommand website if any of this were actually doable though.

Fingers still crossed...

Awesome keep us updated and post some pictures once its installed.

ChaseZ 05-31-2016 10:41 PM

Got the deck and a wifi OBDII dongle just waiting for the harness adapter to show up then I'll give it a go.

Also have en route a Pioneer SPH-DA120 which is basically their equivelant to the 007. I know that one will work so it is the backup plan. Only has a 6.2" screen though. I much prefer the alpine but if it can't run dash command that's a deal breaker for me.

I emailed Palmer to see if they had any advise on getting the app to work. Will share the response
