Default Bazooka Sub install

I installed a 8" Powered Bazooka Sub into the BOSE harness of my '09 370z Touring and thought I'd post this how-to.

First let me say I realize the limitations and quality of the 100W Bazooka, and yes.. nothing beats an aftermarket setup with carefully matched components and an endless bank account.

Check out my other restoration work at classiczcars.com or ontariozcar.com!

So lets get started. I removed the BOSE sub from trunk and took it apart. I tried to find some documentation on this amp and sub so I knew what the ohms were, etc but all I could find was the Nissan fsm had the pinout for harness that went into the sub box. (i found this after cutting a few wires to test them ;()

Heres a pic of the lid off and the amp.

I tried to use the amplified leads from the Bose amp harness after it amplified the 2 woofers, but this was just too much. I had to have the gain on the sub all the way down and it would clip out at mid volume.

Bazooka website FAQ said if you have a Nissan with BOSE simply cut the LOW LEVEL (RCA) wires and use them not as RCA connections, but as high level inputs. This didnt work on the Bose amplified signal very well.

I took the car wiring harness (the one that plugs into the sub from the trunk) and it had the right and left speaker signal wires. I tied both of the Bazooka's high level inputs into those.

I then used the BOSE connector (after the body connector) and tapped into the constant 12V and also the 12V remote. I used a molex connector so I could remove the Bazooka at any time and would still have FULL stock functionality with no one the wiser.

Heres a pic of the BOSE sub installed and the extra harness gets hidden in there also.

And heres a pic of the carpet down and I just strapped the bazooka to the rear bar.

Now I have BOTH the stock sub and the Bazooka going. I keep the bazooka with the gain down and it sure adds nice bass. I agree the bass isn't as super as a custom sub/amp setup but i'd say its good and it sure adds thump.

I ran both (stock/bazooka) for awhile and the BOSE amp doesnt seem to be affected (or get hot), and the voltages stay close to what they were when only one was running so I don't think I'm going to run into any extra heat or safety issues.

The bazooka was cheap on kijiji and I actually think the stock BOSE setup is decent. I didnt want to get into a whole custom install as these BOSE components all have to be changed. For the price and effort this was a good upgrade.

I can't think of any issues I would run into by using this harness, but if anyone sees a base I havn't covered chime in!

Any updates (this post is 2 years old) before I try to do the exact same?

Be curious to see if you like it, too. I've got a dual voice coil 10" zooka that is going in when time is more abundant. Going to run it off a separate amp, though. The 10 looks like it belongs on that rail.

Hey,

I've sold my Z and moved to an older Porsche (i took the bazooka and installed it in the porsche too).

I tried the install a few ways and this imho is the best way to do it. I liked it and when I sold the car I simply unplugged the harness and the tock system worked as it was.

Well, so far it hasn't moved at all. Just using the straps and seat belt covers to pad the cross brace where the straps go. Looks really sharp, IMO.
