Dead project going nowhere. This community is dying.

It made me realize that passionate people are focused people. If you are not passionate about what you do, and have little immediate gain things won't get done. Now I see that the most passionate people I can find for this project are right here on this forum!

So as I prepare for my move to Dallas in the next couple of months I want to put a CALL TO ACTION out here to all my Z enthusiasts who may be software developers or UI/UX designers. If you would be interested in making this a reality in your Z please PM me and we can discuss things in more detail! It would be great if you were in the DFW area so that we could sit down face to face once in a while, but not a requirement.

In the meantime, thank you all for your support and I look forward to hearing from you!

What he is saying is that this costs in 10s of thousands to develop, so the only way it will happen if we spend our free time helping out, i'm a developer but i'm busy till Jan, look at what happened to braniac, they had exposure across different communities and it still failed.

You are absolutely right Scope22, the front money and time to make something like this happen is outrageous. I am speaking with other designers and developers as we speak to honestly see if this is even a viable option due to the costs. I have even spoken with one of the founders of Brainiac to see what their pitfalls were and to get a little advice on how to move forward to make this happen for us. Those guys are great people and have nearly 20 years of real industry experience (something I don't have), connections on hardware, and it boiled down to funding for them. If anyone here has advice or a desire to help bring this thing to life post here and let the community know or you can even PM me directly for more information. It's always great to hear from the community.

Have you thought about doing a jump start program to help with the cost?

Do mean like a Kickstarter page? I have considered it but to make something like that successful there would need to be far more progress on the programming side to and closer to completion. The guys at brainiac had a working prototype and still only raised about $16,500 of their $325,000 goal. So to be successful there I feel more progress is needed. It's kind of a catch 22, progress is difficult without money, and without money progress is difficult. :ugh2:

realistically market is too limited, most new cars come with some version of navigation + audio system, and people with used cars will not want to spend $1000 + installation to retrofit their cars since they can buy a suction cup and a cheap used android device, all that is left is a few nuts like us

The community is alive and well. Not all projects get followed through with doesn't mean anything.

To be honest, the interface shouldn't hold this project up. Get it moving, using an android logic board and get it in people's hands! There has to be a few android based tablet/carpc interfaces that could be modified for this project's needs. This really isn't all that different than a custom android tablet molded into the dash.

As much as I wish I could agree with you on this I can't, at least not 100%. You are correct in saying it could be done with any android interface, but the similarities tend to end with audio/video controls in my opinion.

One of the major problems with using any other application out now through my research. None of them have any kind of climate controls built into them. And that is one of the largest reasons for this particular build is to integrate them into the system. The screen was chosen to maximize the space available. And in doing so is large enough to interfere with current access to the nobs.

Making two models one with existing controls and one without is far more work than it is worth. In the end there will need to be some software development done before this project can be complete. And I am very open to suggestions, right now I am leaning toward Android Auto since it is freely available and can be modified to work well for this build. But there will still need to be some programming done to support a larger than double DIN screen and also the climate controls.

As far as the design, hardware components, and building I have that fully under control. It is the software development that I will take any help I can get!!

The beauty of android based hardware is the rapid development. I'd be happy to hack around and help out where I can. I'm no fullstack developer but I can hack things to work.

My biggest point was you need to keep up momentum by getting this into some people's hands. Even if those people are helping develop the product.

I think the biggest hurdle will be the HVAC control hardware interface. It's either a CANBUS hack/reverse engineer, or a hardware controller that emulates the tangible controls.

If you want some help, lets chat offline about the project. I'd love to have an in-development prototype in my car :)

I agree with you on all that and I will definitely PM you shortly on it!

Pulse check? I factory ordered a 2017 370z, and it arrived since we last spoke. If this project is dead would you mind sharing the 3d files so I could create a custom dash panel. :)
